Job Description

BLOC Resources is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer SR 1 for an exciting opportunity supporting major capital improvement work in Baxley. This position will support the Hatch Capital Extended Power Uprate and is ideal for a mechanical engineering professional with strong experience supporting nuclear power plant modification projects , engineering design reviews, and regulated capital project execution. The selected candidate will serve in a key technical role performing Owner Acceptance Reviews and fulfilling Responsible Design Engineer (RDE) responsibilities to ensure engineering deliverables meet project requirements, technical standards, quality expectations, and regulatory compliance requirements. Position Summary The Mechanical Engineer SR 1 will support engineering design and project execution activities associated with nuclear generating station modification work. This role requires a seasoned mechanical engineer with 5-10 years of relevant experience supporting engineering changes, plant modifications, design verification, and capital project implementation in highly regulated environments. The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing engineering design packages, supporting technical evaluations, confirming design adequacy, and ensuring compliance with applicable project, plant, and regulatory standards. This is a high-visibility position supporting critical infrastructure improvements where technical rigor, quality, and engineering accountability are essential. Key Responsibilities Engineering Design Review Perform detailed review of mechanical engineering design packages supporting nuclear plant modification projects. Evaluate engineering deliverables for technical completeness, constructability, accuracy, and compliance with project requirements. Review calculations, specifications, drawings, equipment documentation, design change packages, and supporting engineering analyses. Verify that proposed design changes meet applicable plant standards, codes, engineering practices, and regulatory requirements. Owner Acceptance Review Support Perform Owner Acceptance Reviews for mechanical design deliverables associated with capital modification projects. Confirm vendor, contractor, and engineering deliverables meet project scope, plant requirements, and quality expectations. Identify technical deficiencies, gaps, or design concerns and coordinate resolution with appropriate project stakeholders. Provide technical review comments and engineering feedback to support timely project execution. Responsible Design Engineer (RDE) Duties Fulfill Responsible Design Engineer responsibilities in support of assigned project work. Ensure engineering products are technically sound, complete, and aligned with plant operational requirements. Provide engineering ownership of assigned design scope from review through implementation support. Support design clarification activities during project execution, construction, installation, and turnover. Project Engineering Support Support the Hatch Capital Extended Power Uprate and related modification initiatives. Coordinate with project management, plant engineering, system engineering, construction, and other technical teams. Participate in engineering meetings, technical reviews, project planning sessions, and issue resolution activities. Support implementation readiness by confirming engineering deliverables support field execution requirements. Compliance, Quality & Technical Excellence Ensure engineering activities are performed in accordance with: plant engineering procedures quality assurance requirements nuclear industry standards project governance requirements Maintain strong engineering documentation practices and technical traceability. Support safe, reliable, and compliant project execution in a highly regulated environment. Required Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering required 5-10 years of professional mechanical engineering experience Demonstrated experience supporting nuclear power plant modification projects Experience performing engineering design reviews, technical evaluations, and design verification activities Experience supporting capital project engineering execution in regulated industrial environments Understanding of engineering change processes, design control, and technical documentation requirements Ability to review and interpret: engineering drawings specifications calculations design change packages vendor technical documentation Preferred Qualifications Experience in any of the following areas is highly valued: Nuclear generating station modification work Owner Acceptance Review activities Responsible Design Engineer (RDE) assignments Power uprate projects Mechanical systems supporting utility or power generation environments Engineering support during construction, installation, startup, or turnover Technical Skills & Expertise Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals Strong design review and technical evaluation capabilities Ability to identify design issues, technical risks, and constructability concerns Strong written and verbal communication skills Strong organizational and documentation skills Ability to manage multiple technical assignments and project priorities Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary engineering environment Core Competencies Technical Rigor
