Job Description

Job description: Putco is looking to expand our Des Moines, Iowa team! We have been a manufacturer of automotive accessories for OEM and aftermarket customers for over 50 years. We are looking for a creative Engineer who will work on all stages of a project. From research and development to design and manufacturing, all the way to final release. Our goal is to design and fabricate mechanical components of innovation and excellence. Responsibilities Perform a full lifecycle product development (design, develop, test prototypes, manufacture, and implementation). Design components and systems that meet set needs and requirements. Conduct experiments methodically, analyze data, and interpret results. Test and evaluate theoretical designs. Identify, formulate, and produce effective solutions to emerging problems. Evaluate the final product's overall performance, reliability, and safety. Alter and modify designs to meet requirements and to eliminate malfunctions. Estimate budget and scope of project. Solicit observations from operators and end use customers. Prepare product reports and documentation. Collaborate with production and factory teams on product implementation. Engage in lifelong learning and develop new skills in theories or methods. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements BS degree in Engineering or working towards one. Familiarity with 3D engineering design and manufacturing tools (e.g., Solidworks, AutoCAD, ProE Creo). Knowledge of engineering analysis tools (ANSYS, ProMechanica or similar). Mathematical computing and analysis tools knowledge (Matlab, Excel, LabView etc). Solid understanding of core concepts including mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, materials science etc. Working experience with product lifecycle management (PLM), finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Hands-on experience with computer-aided engineering (CAE), computer-aided design (CAD), and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) is beneficial. Creativity and analytical skills. Machining knowledge. Ability to communicate technical knowledge in a clear and understandable manner. Technical writing skills. 3D Printer experience is a plus.
