Job Description
Cobalt Integration is a multidisciplinary engineering firm focusing on the design, integration, and construction management of capital asset projects. We provide full-service project management from ideation, budgeting and capital approval, through construction and startup. We pride ourselves not just on completing quality projects, but on developing partnerships with our clients and vendors. Cobalt Integration is seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer. While this position will be based in our Downers Grove, IL office, our projects will take you throughout the United States. Travel is required and can be expected to be 20-30%. The Project Engineer is a key member of the Project Engineering team for the successful and timely execution of assigned projects. This role is responsible for supporting and/or leading projects by delivering efficient engineering design and execution that maintains or improves contract profitability while ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction. Projects may involve a variety of technologies, including conveyors, mixing equipment, fillers/bottling, HVAC, platform design, and more. In addition, the Project Engineer may serve as the Project Manager on select projects, with responsibility for scope, schedule, and execution. Profile and Qualifications
- Develop process layouts, equipment designs, and detailed engineering documentation
- Create technical solutions and assembly drawings for equipment and installations
- Mechanical design of customized solutions including pump and motor sizing, pneumatic/electro-pneumatic/and electrical routing.
- Work with suppliers to understand machine functionality, connection details, and utility requirements.
- Develop process and build specifications, basis of design, and proposals.
- Design conceptual layouts for conveyor and other equipment, material, and operational needs.
- Assure design adherence to all specifications and regulations.
- Support purchasing in evaluating offers and suppliers.
- Interface with on-site project construction teams.
- Provide site visit reports and observation reports for existing and new installations.
- Make an impact day-to-day with your skills and expertise, strengthening relationships with our clients, vendors, and team.
- Experience in the mechanical design elements of manufacturing and distribution facilities for food, beverage, dairy or consumer products industries is desired.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams—from sales and design to production and installation
- Ensuring safety and regulatory compliance with OSHA and USDA standards

- Recognized as a subject matter expert with extensive knowledge of processes, products, and engineering principles Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar engineering or project-focused role
- Proven experience with food and beverage equipment selection
- Proficient in AutoCAD 2020 or similar CAD platforms
- Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and in team settings
- Familiarity with OSHA, USDA, and AIB regulations
- Creative problem-solving mindset and ability to manage projects from concept to completion
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills are a must.
- EIT/PE licensing is preferred. If not already a licensed PE in the state of Illinois, it is expected that candidate will pursue licensing.
- Ability to travel frequently; up to 20-30% travel.
