Test Engineer (SIL & Virtualization)

2nd Shift Position Overview We are seeking a high-caliber Test Engineer to support the MineStar Fleet Application team. In this role, you will play a critical part in enabling autonomous mining trucks and staff vehicles by managing productivity data and fleet management systems. You will work within a high-tech scalability lab, utilizing advanced simulators to replicate real-world mining environments. This position is a unique blend of Heavy Test Engineering and IT Systems Administration , specifically focused on managing a massive cluster of over 1,000 Virtual Machines (VMs) that power Caterpillar's autonomous hauling technology.

Core Responsibilities Test Strategy & Execution:

Develop, document, and execute comprehensive test plans to validate autonomous truck software and fleet management systems.

SIL Testing:

Utilize Software in the Loop (SIL) methodologies to test complex integrated systems before they hit the field.

Virtualization Management:

Self-administer a dedicated cluster of ~1,000 VMs using VMWare . This includes creating new VMs, managing backups, and ensuring environment stability.

System Troubleshooting:

Debug complex software issues across Windows Server and Linux operating systems.

Network Infrastructure:

Work within isolated VLANs and segmented networks to ensure secure and efficient data movement.

Modernization:

Assist in upgrading the environment to Windows Server 2022.

Candidate Requirements Must-Haves:

Experience:

Minimum of 5 years in a Test Engineering or similar technical role.

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Software, or related).

Testing Proficiency:

Proven track record of developing and executing test plans and performing deep-dive debugging.

SIL Expertise:

At least 2 years of experience with Software in the Loop (SIL) testing, ideally within complex, large-scale systems.

IT/Virtualization:

Direct experience with VMWare for VM administration.

Communication:

Exceptional communication skills are mandatory; you must be able to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and explain technical hurdles clearly.

MineStar Fleet, Command for Hauling.

Infrastructure:

Segmented Networks, Isolated VLANs, Server Clusters.
