Job Description

Mechanical Engineer Job Description The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the development, coordination, analysis, and optimization of motor, gearbox, and gearmotor products. This role supports projects from initial concept through validation and product launch, ensuring performance, reliability, and compliance with technical standards, design criteria, and customer requirements. This position works on both standard and custom product lines with high engineering content and provides support from the proposal phase through design, manufacturing, testing, and field service or aftermarket activities. The engineer will collaborate closely with internal teams and customers while contributing to the sharing of best design practices across engineering teams. Key Responsibilities Define product specifications and perform engineering calculations in accordance with internal and external technical standards Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, sales, and customers to implement new designs, resolve system issues, and provide technical support Recommend design options or modifications to optimize performance, cost, and overall value while meeting customer requirements Plan, coordinate, and execute engineering evaluations on prototypes and pilot builds Conduct studies to adapt and improve electric motor mechanical designs in alignment with technological trends, customer specifications, and compliance requirements Specify system components or direct product modifications to ensure conformance with engineering and performance standards Develop structural designs using 3D modeling software Perform statistical analysis related to component tolerance stack-ups Provide technical feedback to sales teams and customers on new product development and field-related issues, including root cause analysis Evaluate and improve components and materials through testing and validation, recommending and approving design or material changes as needed Support manufacturing operations with day-to-day production activities Participate in customer visits and travel to other facilities as required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related field required Relevant electric motor experience may be considered in lieu of education 2+ years of experience in mechanical design engineering Experience coordinating engineering or product development projects Electric motor experience strongly preferred Proficiency in SolidWorks for 3D modeling and 2D detailing required Working knowledge of manufacturing processes for metals, plastics, bearings, shafts, and related components Strong understanding of materials, machining processes, GD&T, and mechanical print reading Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple priorities Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bluffton, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $33.65 - $36.55/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
