Job Description

Position Summary The position is responsible for supporting the development of the next generation of intelligent, autonomous, connected, safe industrial crane/body, gearbox/digger, and winch/hoist equipment. This position develops ELECTRICAL and
CONTROLS
systems for integration with mechanical platforms that focus on machine automation, communication (CANBus, IIoT, Cloud), and real-world system performance. This cross-disciplinary role blends electrical integration, controls, and system validation with mechanical interaction, resulting in an effective mechatronic solution. This position requires the ability to independently execute assigned subsystems or projects, including integration, testing, and validation, for demanding real-world environments. Essential Duties and Responsibilities - includes the following, and others may be assigned
  • Design and develop electrical and control systems for heavy equipment platforms.
  • Configure and integrate CANBus networks, including J1939 or proprietary implementations.
  • Integrate sensors, actuators, embedded controllers, and data acquisition systems.
  • Support development and integration of IIoT, telematics, and edge-connected systems.
  • Perform hands-on testing, data collection, and system troubleshooting in both lab and field environments.
  • Develop and execute validation plans to evaluate system performance, reliability, and environmental robustness.
  • Support system-level debugging across electrical, controls, and firmware interfaces.
  • Develop and maintain design documentation including schematics, wiring diagrams, BOMs, and test procedures.
  • Interface with sourcing, supply chain, and production teams to support transition to manufacturing.
  • Participate in cross-functional design reviews, DFM/DFA, and FMEA activities.
  • Monitor task progress, communicate risks, and manage assigned work with minimal supervision.
  • Support production launch activities and field issue resolution.
  • Ability to travel domestically or internationally as needed. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Experience in CANBus systems, including J1939 and diagnostic tools (e.g., PCAN, CANalyzer).
  • Experience with machine controllers, PLCs, or embedded control systems.
  • Strong hands-on experience with electrical testing and troubleshooting using lab equipment.
  • Experience integrating sensors, actuators, and control systems in industrial or mobile equipment.
  • Familiarity with IIoT systems, telematics, or connected equipment architectures.
  • Experience supporting validation, test execution, and field troubleshooting.
  • Working knowledge of electrical CAD tools and documentation practices.
  • Skills in problem-solving, documentation, and technical communication.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating in a cross-functional R&D environment. Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechatronics, controls engineering, or related field AND
  • 3-5 years of experience in electrical or controls system design and development, preferably for industrial, heavy-duty, or off-highway applications.
