Job Description

The Mechanical Engineer Position is responsible for the overall site ownership for best maintenancepractices, helping manage the maintenance budget, assisting with capital and maintenance projects andsupporting corporate initiatives. In addition, he/she will coordinate the mill maintenance businessstrategy/plan, oversee preventive maintenance and planned maintenance completion.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Reports to Mill Maintenance Superintendent/Manager any information that may impede theoperation of the plant as soon as it becomes known.
  • Initiate and/or maintain a cost-effective preventive maintenance program.
  • Oversee and plan contract work and installations done by outside vendors.
  • Assist in selection, evaluation, and installation of capital and expense projects.
  • Assist production areas with troubleshooting and other assistance as needed
  • Implement, maintain, and support all company policies and procedures, safety program, and goodhousekeeping.
  • Improve and lead the maintenance organization, designing and implementing long-term continuousimprovement applications and systems to enhance the longevity of the site's equipment.
  • Actively participate in planning and executing outages for the facility.
  • Responsible for maintaining records associated with mechanical integrity.
  • Provide on-call and weekend duty coverage within a designated rotation.
  • Additional duties may be assigned by management.
  • Manages Subcontractor relationship to include planning, assigning, and directing work; and addressingcomplaints and resolving problems.
  • Carries out responsibilities in accordance with organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Is required to be hands on when necessary.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCEThe minimum requirements for education and experience are listed below. Consideration will be givento individuals with an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Applicants must have at least 10 years of experience working in a paper mill environment and 5 yearsof that experience should be in Maintenance Management as well as general mechanics with strongelectrical background.
  • A B.S. degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology (Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, orPulp/Paper) is preferred.
  • He/She MUST demonstrate knowledge, skill, leadership, and successful application of preventive andpredictive maintenance, long-range maintenance planning and budgeting and excellent communicationskills with an ability to collaborate with key operations customers.
  • In-depth knowledge of maintenance of the paper manufacturing plant is an asset.
  • Experience with repair and maintenance of processing equipment.
Computer Skills:
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must have expertise and proficiency with basic officecomputer software.
  • Must have the ability to work effectively with Computerized Maintenance Management System(CMMS) and instruct others on its operation.
LANGUAGE
SKILLSAble to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, blueprints, P&ID's, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability tospeak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL
SKILLSAble to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy. Able to calculate figures and amounts such aspercentages, measurement, volume and rate. Able to apply concepts of high school math.
REASONING
ABILITYAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, orgraphic form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardizedsituations. Leadingroot cause analysis and problem solving teams. Analytical and field troubleshootingskills.
TECHNICAL
SKILLSWorking knowledge of mechanical and electricalmachinery, including conveyer systems, breakers,boilers, hydraulic andpneumatic systems, etc. Knowledge of computer systems and the ability tolearnnew complex applications.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONSMay be required to maintain a current Lift Truck Operator License and/or other appropriate certificationto work in certain areas or on certain equipment.
PHYSICAL
DEMANDSWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and talk orhear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands andarms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employeemust regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job includeclose vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENTWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.

The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee is occasionallyexposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and vibration. The noise level in thework environment is usually loud.
