Global Mechanical Design Engineer Are you looking to build on your experience as mechanical engineer in the automotive manufacturing space? Who You Are You are a seasoned mechanical designer with at least 5 years of experience in automotive production engineering. You thrive in cross-functional teams, you and know how to translate a customer's vision into clear, production-ready specifications and designs.
You have:
BA/BS degree in engineering or related field 5+ years of professional experience in mechanical design Demonstrated C3 / Class A surface design expertise, including high-continuity (C2/C3) surfacing and the ability to deliver smooth, production-quality geometry Proficiency with CAD platforms such as CATIA, NX, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD Working knowledge of GD&T, ISO, and ASME drafting standards Familiarity with BOM preparation, vendor coordination, and manufacturing processes (welding, assembly, stamping, robotics integration) Hands-on experience with body weld / body-in-white (BIW) processes and tooling Experience supporting OEM or Tier-1 automotive projects preferred Proven ability to translate customer vision and concept-level input into specific, detailed engineering specifications Strong communication skills — professional, collaborative, and bilingual Bilingual a plus: (English + Japanese, French, Italian, Czech, Chinese, Korean, or Turkish) What You'll Do As part of CSI's global design team, you will create, refine, and support mechanical designs that bring automotive production equipment from specification to installation. Travel may be required up to 20-50%, depending on project scope.
This includes:
Translate customer vision and high-level requirements into specific, actionable design specifications Develop 2D/3D designs for tooling, fixtures, jigs, and production equipment, applying C3 / Class A surfacing where required Interpret customer specifications and translate them into detailed mechanical drawings Support body weld / BIW tooling and fixture design for OEM and Tier-1 production lines Conduct design reviews, simulations, and tolerance checks Support design buy-offs with OEM and Tier-1 clients Prepare BOMs and coordinate with procurement for part sourcing Provide onsite support during installation, trials, and modifications Ensure compliance with safety, ergonomic, and environmental standards Revise and update drawings based on engineering changes and client feedback Document design processes and contribute to SOPs and training materials Who We Are We are a fast-growing, award-winning consulting and automation company based in Lexington, Kentucky, with offices in Toyota City, Japan, and Greensboro, North Carolina.
