Job Description

Overview "Together We Make Life Better". Our quality engineering, sustainable solutions and safety record inspire everything we do. Our diverse and inclusive workforce allows for all employees to feel valued and safe to give their opinions and improve our company. Tata Consulting Engineers USA, LLC, (TCE), is a multi-disciplinary engineering organization offering a full range of integrated engineering design, project support, procurement and construction management services to the energy and chemicals industries. Position Summary Mechanical (Piping - Senior Engineer) will be based at the project site and will lead the execution of piping works from fabrication and erection through testing, reinstatement, and handover. The role covers supervision of pipe spool installation, fit-up and welding, NDT coordination, pressure testing, flushing and cleaning, insulation and painting, and system reinstatement to ensure delivery aligns with approved isometrics, P&IDs, general arrangement drawings, specifications, and applicable codes. Day‑to‑day responsibilities include monitoring field progress, verifying material traceability and heat numbers, ensuring correct installation of valves, specialty items, and supports, and maintaining proper alignment and tolerances at tie‑ins and equipment nozzles. Responsibilities This position requires close coordination with civil/structural for pipe racks and supports, with mechanical (rotating/static) for equipment interfaces, and with electrical/instrumentation for cable tray clearances, earthing, instruments, and heat tracing. The engineer will review and validate shop drawings, spool maps, weld maps, method statements, inspection and test plans, and material submittals; raise and resolve technical queries; manage red‑line updates; and support the preparation of as‑built documentation. Responsibilities include planning and supervising hydrostatic or pneumatic testing, chemical cleaning and blowing, leak testing, torqueing and bolt tensioning, spring hanger settings, and cold/hot settings where applicable. The role also covers punch list management, system walk‑downs for mechanical completion, pre‑commissioning checklists, and turnover dossiers. Regular engagement with project managers, consultants, and client representatives is expected to maintain schedule adherence, quality compliance, and safe execution throughout the construction phase. Qualifications Have strong site experience in piping execution with a solid understanding of process and utility piping, fabrication and erection practices, welding procedures (WPS/PQR), NDT methods, pipe support installation, and system testing and reinstatement. Proficiency in reading and interpreting P&IDs, piping isometrics, GA layouts, support drawings, and equipment datasheets is essential, with the ability to validate spools, identify field interferences, and resolve fit‑up issues. Familiarity with tools such as AutoCAD, Navisworks, and model review platforms (e.g., S3D/SP3D, E3D, or PDMS) is preferred for clash coordination and construction documentation. A deep understanding of how piping systems interface with structural supports, mechanical equipment, insulation/coatings, electrical/instrumentation, and HVAC/plumbing is critical for effective site coordination and problem solving. The role requires the capability to identify deviations, assess risks, and guide contractors with clear technical instructions while maintaining compliance with U.S. standards and good industry practice, including
ASME B31.3/B31.1, ASME
Section IX for welding qualifications, applicable
API/ANSI
standards, and project‑specific specifications. Strong communication, analytical thinking, and confident on‑site decision‑making are important, together with disciplined focus on safety (hot work, confined space, lifting), quality, and turnover/commissioning deliverables. Background in the Iron & Steel sector, with involvement in Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) plant construction activities will be an added preference. Education Requirements Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline required. EEO Statement Tata Consulting Engineers
