Senior Mechanical Design Engineer Location:

Full time About This Position The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer plays a critical role in leading the design and development of the mechanical and structural aspects of these projects. This position requires strong capabilities in managing project schedules, budgets, and a small design team. The design team consists of junior engineers and technical designers under the direct supervision of the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer. Projects are managed from initial concept through fabrication, assembly, testing, and final commissioning. The role requires close collaboration with fabrication and production teams, field service technicians, vendors, and occasional direct interaction with customers. Projects typically range in value from less than $100,000 to more than $20 million and generally span approximately one year from inception to completion. Position Responsibilities Demonstrate strong capability in managing project-specific technical requirements, engineering schedules, and budgets. Communicate regularly with project management regarding schedules, budgets, risks, and technical challenges. Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to junior engineers and technical designers. Review engineering calculations, drawings, and vendor-supplied documentation. Approval and issue of fabrication and construction drawings. Design and engineer mechanical systems and structural components for dredging equipment. Stamp engineering drawings when required. Support fabrication and production teams during equipment build and assembly. Develop and execute testing plans for dredging equipment. Actively preforming or participate in testing at the facility Support field assembly, installation, and commissioning activities as required.. Perform additional duties as required. Minimum Requirements Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (required). Minimum of 3+ years of mechanical design or engineering experience in an industrial, manufacturing, fabrication, or equipment-based environment. Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred, or actively working toward licensure. Design experience with structural components, machine design, electrical systems, and hydraulic systems. Proficiency with AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor, or comparable 2D/3D CAD software. Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally as required to support projects, vendors, and field operations. (travel is very limited). Ability to work overtime, evenings, and weekends when necessary to meet project schedules or operational demands. Highly organized, with the ability to adapt, prioritize task, and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment. Work Environment Primarily office based with regular interaction in manufacturing, assembly, and testing environments. Exposure to industrial conditions including noise, machinery, dust, and fluctuating temperatures during shop or field support activities. May require occasional travel to vendor facilities, job sites, or customer locations. Position requires the ability to work safely around heavy equipment and industrial operations.
