Job Summary Summary Will support the development of systems and probes being developed for research and clinical applications through all development phases, including design, prototyping, fabrication, validation, utilization, and maintenance. Highly desired qualities are creativity, attention to detail, and experience with biomedical optics. Will participate on multiple projects, and assist in the design and fabrication of , mechanical, and electronic components in new devices, reviewing and documenting the manufacturing process for in-production devices, and troubleshooting the performance of existing systems. Does this position require Patient Care? No Essential Functions Design new, mechanical, and electronic components and systems using industry standard design control processes. Develop complex mechanical systems. Design, fabricate, and validate mechanical enclosures, mounts, and subassemblies. Design and implement vibration, thermal, and environmental testing methods. Produce prototypes of new optical, mechanical, and electronic components and systems. Document new and existing parts and procedures to facilitate manufacturing. Validate the conformance of components and systems to specifications. Troubleshoot and take corrective action for components and systems not meeting specifications. Qualifications Education Bachelor's Degree Related Field of Study required Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No Licenses and Credentials Experience Experience in device engineering in a hospital, industry, or academic 1-2 years preferred and Experience in medical engineering 0-1 year preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities- Skill in management of engineering projects and/or personnel.
- Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team of scientist, engineers and medical doctors.
- Ability to diagnose and solve technical and/or system problems of moderate complexity.
- Computer literacy to the level of at least word processing, spreadsheets, databases, graphics, statistics, engineering tools and programming.
- Skill in technical writing.

- L4TE) is focused on translational medicine.
Position Overview:
In this role, you will be part of the fabrication team comprised of mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, imaging specialists, and microfabrication and micro/nano technology experts. The work with this multidisciplinary group of researchers will cover design, fabrication, and testing of medical devices with a specific focus on novel drug delivery devices. The position also covers many aspects of design and fabrication including 3D printers (SLA and FDM), CNC milling, injection molding, laser micromachining, and many other mechanical fabrication/testing equipment.Responsibilities:
Work on the design of medical devices and drug delivery systems Operate and maintain mechanical fabrication/testing equipment Perform mechanical/chemical characterization Execute statistical analysis of experiments Summarize and document research results/findingsRequired Qualifications & Skills:
Pursuing a research position post-graduation from a B.S or M.S., or equivalent in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, or a related field; at least 6 months of relevant experience (co-op and internships considered). An ideal candidate will have a research background in biomedical engineering as well as hands-on experience/rapid prototyping skills, but training to gain further skills will be available. Candidates with relevant experience in the following areas are encouraged to apply: CAD/CAM (SolidWorks or Fusion360) Biomedical device design and development Material characterization (biomaterials and plastics, experience with Instron testing machines)- Additive manufacturing/3D Printing (FDM and SLA)
- Subtractive manufacturing (laser, manual, and CNC machining) Injection molding (extrusion, injection molding, and compression molding) Instron mechanical testing Documentation skills and skills in writing standard operating procedures Multiphysics simulations (ex. COMSOL)
- (preferred) Spray coating (preferred) Drug delivery/pharmaceutical sciences (preferred) Microfabrication background (preferred) Matlab/Arduino programming (preferred) Candidate must have self-motivation and willingness to learn new tools and techniques; strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team; comfort summarizing and reporting results to interdisciplinary researchers; commitment to exceeding standards and producing accurate, high-quality work; meticulous attention to detail; practiced documentation skills; and ability to follow safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment.
