Our equipment is at the center of some of the most demanding test programs in aerospace, electronics, automotive, and the rapidly growing battery and energy storage market. The Opportunity We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our sustaining engineering team — the group that keeps our products reliable, manufacturable, and continuously improving. This is a high-impact role, where you will be the person who closes the loop between engineering and the shop floor: resolving real-time production issues, driving Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), and continuously optimizing designs for manufacturability (DFM). Your changes will ship on physical hardware and yield results in days rather than quarters. Battery testing is a growth area for AES, and this role puts you at the center of it. You do not need to arrive as a battery expert — you need to be a strong mechanical engineer who is curious about the space and wants to own it. What You'll Do ECO Execution & Design Revisions Own engineering change orders from initiation through release — including redlines, drawing updates, and BOM revisions Drive design changes based on production feedback, field issues, and cost or manufacturability improvements Work directly with manufacturing to understand root cause and close issues fast Issue Triage & Production Support Serve as the engineering point of contact for build issues on battery test chamber systems Resolve fit-up problems, thermal sealing challenges, and integration issues in real time Participate in build reviews and provide hands-on floor support during production Continuous Improvement Identify and execute DFMA improvements that increase build repeatability and reduce complexity Contribute to standardization of hardware, interfaces, and assembly approaches across product lines Flag recurring issues, propose fixes, and see them through to implementation Battery Test Systems (Your Domain to Own) Support design and documentation of battery test fixtures, racking systems, and chamber interfaces Contribute to systems supporting coin cell, cylindrical, and pouch format testing Develop working familiarity with battery safety and abuse testing environments — including venting, containment, and thermal management Collaborate with refrigeration, electrical, and controls engineers to integrate mechanical designs into complete systems What You Bring 3-8 years of mechanical engineering experience in a manufacturing or test equipment environment Strong SolidWorks proficiency — assemblies, drawings, and BOM management Hands-on sheet metal design experience — laser cutting, forming, welding Demonstrated experience supporting production: ECOs, design revisions, and floor-level problem solving High attention to detail and ability to produce clear, production-ready documentation Comfortable in a fast-paced environment where the answer matters more than the process Nice to Have These are not requirements — they are areas where you'll grow quickly once you're here: Exposure to battery testing systems or labs Familiarity with lithium-ion cell formats (coin cell, cylindrical, pouch) Understanding of battery failure modes, venting, or thermal runaway Experience designing for high temperature, corrosive, or controlled environments What We Offer Direct, visible impact on hardware that ships to industry-leading customers A collaborative engineering and manufacturing team that values execution over process Ownership of a growing product domain with room to deepen expertise Competitive salary and benefits Tuition reimbursement A casual, dog-friendly work environment
