Job Description

What you'll do You'll lead the design and delivery of rugged, reliable functional test equipment and automated test systems used to verify and validate defense hardware and subsystems . This is a hands-on, end-to-end engineering role — from requirements and architecture through detailed design, integration, deployment, and sustainment . If you enjoy building test solutions that combine mechanical design + electrical interfaces + instrumentation + fixtures and seeing them used in real production environments, this role is for you. Why this role matters Your work directly supports mission-critical programs by ensuring hardware is tested thoroughly, safely, and consistently — in regulated environments where quality and compliance are essential. Key responsibilitiesTest system design & development Lead design of electromechanical functional test equipment (FTE) and automated test equipment (ATE) for defense hardware (LRUs, circuit cards, subsystems, assemblies) Define system architecture integrating: fixtures/enclosures/racks, cable management, thermal solutions electrical interfaces, power distribution, instrumentation, sensors, motion components Produce detailed designs and documentation (drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, BOMs, ICDs) Provide engineering labor estimates and BOMs to support customer RFQs Lead/participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and technical decision-making Integration, verification & troubleshooting Support integration, bring-up, and validation in engineering + production environments Develop and support verification plans to ensure performance, accuracy, safety, and reliability Troubleshoot complex electro-mechanical issues (power, signal integrity, grounding, thermal behavior, alignment) Partner with test software engineers to ensure smooth hardware/software integration Support root cause analysis and corrective actions for production or field issues Compliance & standards (defense/aerospace) Ensure designs align with applicable defense/aerospace/safety standards (MIL-STD, IPC, ANSI, UL) Design ruggedized systems for harsh environments, long duty cycles, and long service life Support documentation, audits, and reviews tied to contractual, regulatory, and quality requirements Manufacturing & sustainment support Apply
DFM/DFA/DFT
best practices Support production deployment, technical data package release, and engineering changes (ECOs) Assist sustainment efforts (obsolescence mitigation, fielded system improvements) What we're looking for (required) Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Electromechanical, Industrial, or related) 6+ years designing electromechanical systems (test equipment experience strongly preferred) Advanced CAD skills ( SolidWorks preferred ) Strong knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and mechanical systems Experience with GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis Proven ability to take designs from concept → production Working knowledge of electrical systems (power distribution, grounding, cabling, instrumentation interfaces) Strong problem-solving and communication skills; organized and detail-oriented Experience working in regulated or mission-critical environments U.S. Citizenship required (ITAR / export control) Nice to have (preferred) Aerospace/defense test equipment background Familiarity with MIL-STD requirements (environmental, EMI/EMC, ruggedization) Rack-based systems, custom fixtures, precision alignment mechanisms PXI/VXI/LXI or similar automated test platforms Hands-on prototyping, test, and production support experience Supplier/contract manufacturer experience Prior technical leadership or project leadership Basic understanding of ERP systems Work environment Engineering work in a standard office environment (standing desks available) Assembly/integration in a manufacturing/production setting PPE as needed (safety glasses, ESD protection) Fast-paced environment with daily goals What we offer Challenging, meaningful engineering work with real impact Opportunity to lead and influence test solution strategy Collaborative, innovative team environment Career growth and advancement opportunities Competitive salary + benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision 401(k) with 3% employer match Paid holidays & PTO Profit sharing program for tenured employees Equal Opportunity Employer We are an Equal Opportunity Employer.
