Job Description

Job Title:
Systems Test Engineer Job Description The Systems Test Engineer designs, executes, and improves integration and functional test plans for complex hardware and software systems, with a strong focus on automation, robotics, and factory environments. This role drives daily testing activities, analyzes defects, and supports data-driven decisions on release readiness while collaborating closely with engineering and project teams. Responsibilities Develop and maintain detailed integration and functional test plans for complex systems, including hardware, software, and automation components. Drive daily testing activities during on-site test phases, ensuring all planned test cases execute on schedule and to a high standard of quality. Provide clear internal and external communication on test results, including formal reports and issue tracking updates, to keep leadership and engineering teams informed. Participate in the defect management process for hardware and software issues, including documenting, analyzing, and tracking defects through closure. Create, prioritize, and manage defect tickets, ensuring accurate descriptions, reproducible steps, and timely follow-up until resolution. Continuously improve overall system integration test strategies and test plans by identifying gaps, proposing enhancements, and implementing best practices. Assist with the operation and debugging of automated test systems, including configuring test setups and resolving issues that arise during execution. Assist with setup and execution of test cases using tools such as TestRail, JIRA, and SharePoint, ensuring test coverage and traceability. Run and debug PLC-based or other automation equipment via HMI or command line interfaces to validate functionality and troubleshoot issues. Navigate Linux and Windows-based system software to collect logs and debug files, supporting root cause analysis and corrective actions. Write very detailed test documentation, including test procedures, test reports, and anomaly reports when tests fail or behave unexpectedly. Perform root cause analysis on test failures and support the definition and verification of corrective actions. Work with large data sets in Excel to analyze test results, create dynamic dashboards, and provide data-driven insights. Write complete SQL queries from scratch to extract, filter, and aggregate data needed for test analysis and reporting. Support project teams in determining whether components or features are ready for release or production based on test evidence and defect status. Apply basic networking skills, such as locating IP and MAC addresses and using SSH to access machines for testing and debugging activities. Essential Skills 3-5 years of relevant test engineering or systems test experience. 4-year degree in a technical field (such as mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or computer science) or equivalent test experience. Hands-on experience with test equipment and hardware testing in a factory or production environment. Proficiency in test engineering practices, including integration and functional testing, defect management, and root cause analysis. Strong scripting capabilities in Python, Linux shell, and Windows PowerShell for automation and debugging. Proficiency in programming languages and comfort writing and debugging scripts as a core requirement. Ability to write very detailed test documentation, including test plans, procedures, and failure/anomaly reports. Experience with Microsoft Excel, including working with large data sets and building dynamic dashboards. Ability to write complete SQL queries from scratch to meet data and reporting needs. Experience using tools such as TestRail, JIRA, and SharePoint for test case management and defect tracking. Experience debugging PLC-based or other automation equipment via HMI or command line interfaces. Proficiency navigating both Linux and Windows operating systems to collect logs and debug files. Strong hardware troubleshooting skills, particularly in electrical and hardware test environments. Basic networking skills, including understanding and locating IP and MAC addresses and using SSH to access machines. Ability to support project teams in assessing component and feature readiness for release or production. Additional Skills & Qualifications Engineering degree in mechanical, electrical, or computer science disciplines is preferred. Experience working with robotics systems or a strong willingness to learn and work on robots. Experience supporting ICT (in-circuit test) or other hardware-focused test environments. Demonstrated ability to identify anomalies during testing and perform structured root cause analysis on failures. Experience contributing to continuous improvement of test strategies, methodologies, and processes. Strong written and verbal communication skills for clear reporting and cross-functional collaboration. Comfort working in a factory setting and around automation and robotics equipment. Work Environment The role operates in a hands-on factory and hardware-focused environment, supporting ICT hardware and automated test systems. You will work closely with robotics, PLC-based automation, and other industrial equipment, often interacting directly with physical systems on the production floor. The position involves frequent use of test equipment, computers running both Windows and Linux, and tools such as TestRail, JIRA, SharePoint, Excel, SQL, and scripting environments (Python, Linux shell, Windows PowerShell). Work typically involves on-site test phases, where you drive daily testing activities, collect logs, and debug issues in real time. The environment emphasizes safety, collaboration with cross-functional engineering teams, and a practical, hands-on approach to problem solving and continuous improvement.
