Job Title:
Engineering Technician - Components Job Description This role supports new product development of advanced thermal management components used in high-technology markets, including defense, commercial aerospace, laser systems, medical equipment such as X-ray and MRI, data centers, traction applications, and semiconductor equipment. The engineering technician will work hands-on in a lab and manufacturing environment to test, assemble, and validate prototype and production components, ensuring they meet demanding performance and reliability requirements. The position requires a highly motivated self-starter with strong electrical and mechanical capabilities and excellent communication skills. Responsibilities Test prototype and production components and assemblies to determine performance and ensure compliance with customer specifications, including measurements of cooling capacity, fluid flow, pressure drop, shock and vibration, noise level, and control system performance. Design and build specialized test equipment, fixtures, and setups to support testing of prototype and production components and assemblies. Work from verbal and written instructions, technical manuals, engineering specifications, electrical schematics, P&I diagrams, and engineering drawings to perform testing and assembly tasks. Use a variety of test equipment to troubleshoot product defects and identify root causes of performance issues. Support engineering by writing test procedures, executing test plans, interpreting test data, and preparing clear and detailed test reports. Take ownership of engineering lab equipment, including maintaining a 6S program, coordinating equipment maintenance, and ensuring calibration is up to date. Calibrate pressure gauges, thermocouples, flow meters, and other instruments required for specialized test setups and data acquisition. Assemble hydraulic and thermal management components, including performing soldering, brazing, wiring, plumbing of fixtures, and integration of vacuum pumps and refrigeration systems as needed. Interface effectively with engineering, drafting, production personnel, and outside vendors to support product development and resolve technical issues. Use Microsoft Excel and Word to document test results, maintain logs, and create reports and procedures. Handle and move equipment and components as needed, including safely lifting up to 50 lbs. Essential Skills Approximately 5 years of hands-on experience in assembly or systems testing in a lab or manufacturing environment. Strong electrical and mechanical skills, with the ability to work confidently on electro-mechanical systems. Advanced electrical knowledge, including reading and interpreting electrical schematics and P&I diagrams. Proficiency in using standard hand tools and measuring equipment for assembly, testing, and troubleshooting. Capability to assemble hydraulic components, including soldering and brazing operations. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals, and engineering specifications. Experience using a variety of test equipment, including thermocouples, pressure transducers, flow meters, and data acquisition systems. Ability to design and build specialized test fixtures and test setups for prototype and production components. Strong troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve product defects and performance issues. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word for data analysis, documentation, and reporting. Effective verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and document technical work. Motivated, hands-on approach with the ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Ability to safely lift and handle items up to 50 lbs as part of daily work activities. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with soldering and brazing in a production or lab environment. Familiarity with SolidWorks for reviewing or supporting mechanical designs. Experience with LabVIEW for test automation or data acquisition is highly desirable. Experience working with plumbing fixtures, vacuum pumps, refrigeration systems, and related hardware used in thermal management testing. Exposure to PLCs and control systems used in test setups or production equipment. Experience implementing or working within a 6S or similar continuous improvement program in a lab or manufacturing setting. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in maintaining lab equipment, calibration records, and test documentation. Demonstrated ability to interface professionally with engineering, drafting, production teams, and external vendors. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Woburn, MA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $85000.00 - $100000.00/yr.
