Job Description

Responsible for the development, procurement, validation, and continuous improvement of stamping dies and associated tooling to support new die builds and production operations. This position requires independent evaluation and judgment to ensure tooling solutions meet production goals, quality standards, and cost objectives — carrying new dies from design through build, tryout, launch, and into stable production follow-up. Responsibilities Assist in preparing investment and expense budgets for the addition, modification, replacement, or disposal of die-related equipment, tooling, or processes Specify and select new capital equipment for tooling and dies; oversee installation, start-up, and sound operation Manage all timelines, budgets, and activities pertaining to dies, including design and design reviews, build and tryout, feasibility studies, APQP, tooling approvals and buy-offs, Run at Rate, and PPAP submissions, through hand-off to production Provide ongoing follow-up support after launch, including troubleshooting, root cause resolution, and engineering changes Attend and actively participate in APQP meetings and associated activities (tryouts, PPAP, Run at Rate, etc.) Work with Commodity and Team Buyers and Supplier Quality Engineers to reduce PPMs and ensure proper tooling maintenance and construction; document corrective actions in customer-ready format Coordinate between the Tool Room and Quality Control to ensure monthly die recertification requirements are completed and documented per QMS-EMS standards Coordinate engineering changes through the tool room; generate and distribute tooling progress reports as required Investigate and implement new tooling technology (e.g., coatings, steel grades) Complete extensive written and verbal reporting with timely follow-through Support die tryout and buyoff, identifying and resolving splits, wrinkles, dimensional issues, and other stamping defects during early production runs Qualifications Certified Tool and Die Journeyman, or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering 3-5+ years of tooling engineering experience within automotive stamping operations Strong knowledge of progressive dies, transfer dies, and hand transfer dies Proficient in CAD software (CATIA, AutoForm, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD) and tooling/forming simulation software Deep understanding of automotive materials (HSLA, AHSS, aluminum) and their impact on die design and performance Knowledge of SPC (Statistical Process Control) and its application in tooling Ability to read blueprints, die drawings, and GD&T Strong analytical, project management, and communication skills Proven ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment in planning, organizing, and coordinating tooling projects Ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with internal and external customers The company is not able to sponsor employment visas (e.g., H-1B, TN, or other work authorizations) at this time.   • Work is typically performed in a manufacturing environment, including production floors, workshops, and offices for design and project management tasks.
  • Exposure to noise, machinery, and production equipment is common; adherence to safety protocols is required at all times.
  • Occasional travel to vendors, suppliers, or other manufacturing sites may be required.
