Senior Mechanical Engineer | Farmington Hills, MI IMEG is hiring a Senior Mechanical Engineer in Farmington Hills, MI, to lead the delivery of large and highly complex projects as a project manager or lead engineer. In this role, you'll provide project direction, engineering solutions, and client-focused guidance for mechanical systems in the vertical building industry, supporting one of our industrial market teams. You will also work within project budgets, lead training and mentoring, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations. Principal ResponsibilitiesCoordinate, oversee, and manage projects ranging in size and complexity while serving as the point of contact for internal teams and clientsCollaborate with business development staff, Project Executives, Client Executives, and Market Directors / Leaders during the initial stages of project opportunitiesAssist Project Executives and Client Executives with design scopes of work and fee calculations for proposal generationAssist Project Executives and Client Executives with contract reviewsCreate project schedules including targets for milestones and deadlinesCreate monthly billings and submit financial information to Accounting in a timely manner; update billing projections and estimated completion percentage for all projects monthlyEnsure design follows owner standards and requirements, IMEG standards and code requirements; ensure milestone deliverables, quality control processes, and timely construction technical supportCoordinate scheduling through all phases of design and construction; schedule/lead progress meetings and provide meeting documentationLead project interviews and project presentationsRespond to and resolve client/construction concerns, manage change orders and obtain appropriate approvalsTrain, mentor, and motivate staffBuild, maintain, and develop client relationships Required Qualifications and SkillsBachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent, requiredProfessional Engineer (PE) License required14 years of experience minimum required, 16 preferred, in the building design consulting industryDemonstrated leadership traits in the project management career path; ability to mentor, train, motivate, and lead othersMastery of technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles in thermodynamics, psychrometrics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics relating to mechanical design in HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systemsAbility to perform final quality control check in their area of expertiseAbility to sell work and develop client relationshipsExcellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groupsAbility to work collaboratively in a team environmentAttention to detail and problem-solving skillsEagerness to adapt to new challengesProficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and OutlookAbility to travel up to 25% with occasional overnight staysThis position is not eligible for sponsorship. The team applies lifecycle analysis, rapid energy modeling, and sustainable design practices to support occupant comfort, indoor air quality, and reduced energy consumption.
Mechanical specialties include advanced HVAC system design (including geothermal systems, chilled beams, and industrial ventilation), central plants, building automation and controls, and energy recovery solutions.
