We are a design and engineering studio focused on specialized product development across healthcare, wellness, rehabilitation, and consumer product industries. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys hands-on development, systems thinking, and bringing simple to complex mechanical products from concept through production. We are looking for someone with a strong background in human-factors-driven mechanical systems, including rehabilitative equipment, ergonomic adjustment mechanisms, therapeutic or clinical hardware, fitness or exercise equipment, or similar product categories where precision, safety, reliability, and smooth mechanical motion are essential. This position involves full CAD development from the ground up, actuator and motion-system integration, prototyping coordination, and close collaboration with our internal team throughout the development process. Responsibilities Lead full mechanical design and development of products using CAD software (SolidWorks and/or Creo), with a focus on ergonomics, structural integrity, usability, and manufacturability. Develop technical drawings, schematics, and drafting documentation in accordance with ASME standards and GD&T practices. Design and integrate actuator systems and mechanical motion components, including selection, sizing, and layout of electromechanical systems. Conduct FEA and simulation analysis to validate structural and dynamic performance under real-world use conditions. Collaborate closely with industrial designers, engineers, fabricators, and clients to ensure design intent and product requirements are met throughout development. Support prototyping, testing, CNC machining coordination, laser cutting, BOM and sourcing components + fixtures, and manufacturing handoff documentation. Apply systems-level thinking across mechanical and electrical/control systems, including experience with PLCs, Arduino, or related platforms where applicable. Participate in ongoing product development discussions, problem-solving sessions, and in-person team and industrial design collaboration at our Grand Rapids studio. Manage project timelines, communicate progress clearly, and contribute within a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. Proven experience designing mechanical products within healthcare, wellness, rehabilitation, fitness, ergonomic, or other human-centered product categories. Proficiency in SolidWorks and/or Creo for advanced 3D modeling, assemblies, and production documentation. Experience integrating actuator systems and mechanical motion mechanisms such as linear actuators, linkage systems, adjustable positioning systems, or similar technologies. Strong understanding of
GD&T, FEA
methodology, and design for manufacturing principles. Familiarity with ASME codes and standards related to mechanical and human-contact products. Experience working across mechanical and electrical/control systems; familiarity with PLCs, Arduino, LabVIEW, or MATLAB/Simulink is a plus. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple development tasks in a collaborative studio environment. Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
