Job Description

Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Multiple Positions), Tesla, Inc.,
Grand Rapids, MI:
Responsible for creating and maintaining 2D and 3D stamping processes, contributing to simulation development, performing detail design, and presenting their work in project reviews in support of the tool build processes. Utilize tooling process developments to design optimized tools. Use developed surfaces from simulation and process creations phases to design stamping tools delivering planned function. Support tooling projects through reviews, build and tryout, providing schedule feedback along the way to ensure on budget and on time completion. Implement Engineering changes to existing tools by planning and executing design updates. Provide cross functional support and collaboration with other departments within Tesla as needed to ensure project success and to share stamping principles and expertise to new areas and teams. Full time employment, Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Engineering Mechanics or a related field, and four (4) years of work experience. Alternatively, will accept a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Engineering Mechanics or a related field, and two (2) years of work experience. Must have 2 years of experience with each of the following: •Project management; Mechanical design analysis including stress, strain, thermal, tolerance, or cost & mass optimization; SolidWorks, CATIA
V5, CATIA
V6, or FEA simulation; Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T); and Design for reliability concepts.

Requires domestic travel up to 10% in order to meet with cross functional teams at Tesla for tooling and product reviews, as well as to support the transition of tooling into production.
