Job Description:
We're supporting a leading automation integrator on the search for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join a long term contract project based onsite in Lake Orion, Michigan. This is a hands on engineering role focused on the design and development of automated assembly systems within high volume manufacturing environments. You'll be working alongside controls, electrical, manufacturing and project teams to deliver complex automation solutions for major automotive programmes. The role would suit someone who enjoys being close to the floor, solving real engineering problems and taking ownership of designs from concept through to installation.

May through September 2026
Schedule:
Onsite, Monday to Friday Key Responsibilities Design mechanical systems and automated assembly equipment for automotive manufacturing environments Create detailed 3D models, assemblies and manufacturing drawings using NX Develop concepts, prototypes and production ready designs Perform engineering calculations and support design validation activities Apply GD&T principles and ensure designs are manufacturable and robust Collaborate with controls engineers, electrical engineers, vendors and manufacturing teams Support build, integration and commissioning activities when required Maintain accurate engineering documentation throughout the project lifecycle Requirements Strong background in mechanical design engineering within automation or general assembly Experience designing automated manufacturing equipment and tooling Proficiency with Siemens NX Strong understanding of GD&T and manufacturing processes Automotive industry experience preferred Experience supporting Ford or General Motors projects would be highly beneficial Ability to work onsite in Lake Orion, Michigan If you're an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer looking for your next long term contract within automotive automation, we'd like to hear from you.
