Job Title:
Test Engineer Job Description The primary role of a Test Engineer is to oversee the development and testing of automotive power electronics and electric traction system components for both fuel cell and hybrid vehicles. This position involves monitoring test processes, tracking product changes, and modifying tests and equipment to ensure optimal fault coverage. Responsibilities Develop and evaluate test systems for electronic subassemblies in fuel cell and hybrid vehicles, focusing on power conversion. Develop and execute test plans to validate software modifications for TECH 2 core software releases. Validate software for the DSD Vehicle Communications group. Document and communicate any issues identified during validation and verification. Use VLT CAT or other serial data tools to diagnose and resolve serial data communication issues. Create electrical design schematics and some mechanical drawings of test systems. Automate tests using LabVIEW programming language. Generate serial data reports and software release memos. Complete special assignments related to TECH 2 support. Schedule testing and coordinate resources effectively. Communicate project status through oral presentations and written reports. Design and deliver both automated and manual functional test equipment. Provide technical direction for engineering support personnel. Participate in product development team meetings to review design specifications and schedule requirements. Research new technologies and techniques. Possible local travel may be required. Essential Skills Familiarity with Vehicle Link Testers. Knowledge of electronic concepts and ability to read electrical schematics. Understanding of vehicle diagnostic and service procedures. Working knowledge of vehicle serial data communication protocols such as UART, Class 2, KeyWord, CAN, and GMLAN. Proficiency in using the TECH 2 hand-held diagnostic computer. Experience with vehicle mechanical and electrical systems. Advanced problem-solving skills using root cause analysis. Knowledge in LabVIEW programming. Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and MS Projects. Experience with Lotus Notes or other email tools. Strong interpersonal skills for cross-functional and cross-cultural collaboration. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational skills for coordinating and executing project plans. Ability to work independently and in a team. Capability to handle multiple projects simultaneously. Experience in mentoring and providing performance feedback. Strong analytical skills. Valid state driver's license. Basic understanding of the internet. Additional Skills & Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automotive Technology, or a related technical field. 5-7 years of experience in test engineering, validation, and test development. Minimum 2 years of experience in automotive engineering with engine knowledge (diesel or gasoline). Experience with computer and data acquisition systems in test environments. Data analysis experience for optimizing testing and assessing hardware performance. Proficiency in creating and using MATLAB scripts for data analysis and post-processing. Experience with AVL PUMA/IndiCom andETAS INCA
software. Exposure to engine calibration in test cell or vehicle environments. 5+ years of experience in automotive engineering with engine development or testing. Hands-on experience with engine dynamometer setup and testing. Understanding of engine function, architecture, and subsystems. Work Environment The work is conducted in a state-of-the-art lab environment that supports 20 cells, ensuring a very clean and organized setting. The team consists of around 20 engineers, and the dress code is business casual. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Pontiac, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $44.00 - $47.00/hr.
