Tooling Engineer - Machining Launch (Contract)
Location:
Sterling Heights, MI (Onsite)
Pay Rate:
$68.17/hrWe are seeking a Tooling Engineer to support a high-impact machining launch program within a major automotive manufacturing environment. This role partners closely with headquarters launch teams and suppliers to ensure successful delivery of a new machining line aligned with quality, safety, cost, and delivery targets.

Key ResponsibilitiesSupport machining processes through tooling development and optimizationAssist with implementation of GTSV tool tracking systems and tooling standardsIdentify tool-critical and dominant features; establish robust process controlsDrive continuous improvement initiatives in safety, quality, and productivityComplete PPAP documentation and support full launch quality requirementsApply engineering principles to improve manufacturing processes and product performanceDevelop action plans to resolve internal and supplier process issuesLead process audits aligned with Powertrain and corporate standardsCreate work instructions and process documentation supporting quality systemsSupport gear machining operations with capable tooling and process designLead lean manufacturing and variability reduction initiativesEnsure compliance with ISO 14001, environmental, and plant standardsRequired Skills & Experience5+ years of manufacturing/tooling or machining engineering experienceStrong background in tooling design, CNC machining, and problem solvingKnowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)High School Diploma or GED requiredPreferred QualificationsBachelor's degree in EngineeringExperience with gear machining, blade grinding, CNC millsFamiliarity with Zoller or Royal tool presettersExperience with FMEA, PPAP, DOE, Lean Manufacturing, and Six SigmaStrong communication and leadership in cross-functional environmentsBenefitsMedical, dental, vision, and pet insurance401(k) Retirement Savings PlansEmployee Assistance Program (EAP)Commuter/Parking AccountsPeople Perks ProgramHealth Savings Account (HSA)AD&D InsuranceThis is a fully onsite contract opportunity supporting a critical automotive launch program.
