Launched in 2017, MotoCrane designs/manufactures/assembles/services robotic automotive camera cranes for the film/tv industry. Our equipment is used around the world to film automotive commercials and advertisements for brands like Audi, Toyota, Ford, etc. and to film automotive programs like Top Gear. JOB SUMMARY
We are expanding our Engineering team and looking for a Mechanical Engineer to work with on new product development.
POSITION
Full-time salaried employee- Health Insurance, Holidays off, 10 days PTO annually, 401k matching, etc. This is an interdisciplinary role that combines formal mechanical design and engineering skills with the practical experience of testing, prototyping, assembly and service where needed. We design and build robotic systems for the film industry. Our products range from purely mechanical and passive systems all the way to fully controlled two-axis camera crane systems and 3-axis gyro stabilization control systems. We tinker, test, experiment, prototype, and develop almost everything in-house. This includes circuit and PCB development (breadboarding, vector-boarding, debugging), firmware and algorithm development, driveline development (motor and gearbox selection, design of gear and belt driven mechanisms), mechanical design and simulation (3D modeling, 3D printing, rapid prototyping, etc.), and system testing to ensure the product meets the target specifications. We also carry the product all the way from prototype to production stages, optimizing the design for manufacturability, serviceability, cost, and ease of assembly. This is a perfect role for someone who is passionate about developing robotic systems and participating/leading virtually all fronts of mechanical product development. We don't expect you to know everything from the start, and we will provide you with the support and guidance needed to grow into this role, if it's something you are passionate about!
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Follow a structured engineering process to bring new products all the way from concept to production status Participation in high level concepting and brainstorming about new products Feasibility studies, analysis, simulation, and prototyping Iteration, prototyping, and testing of electromechanical products DFMA, hazard analysis, DFMEA Creating and carrying out engineering testing plans to ensure products meet required specifications and perform in a safe and reliable manner Train shop and assembly staff to build, validate, and ship products according to best practices CAD management and file organization 3D CAD Modeling of designs/new products in Solidworks Follow best practices in organizing and maintaining large CAD assemblies Create and maintain bill of materials (BOMs) for multiple products Export and organize files to streamline purchasing and production processes Maintain standardized hardware and electrical CAD toolbox for all products Hardware selection and sizing for current projects Design and build assembly jigs and tools Design and build electro-mechanical validation setups Participate in assembly and manufacturing process as needed
REQUIRED SKILLS
Working proficiency with SolidWorks (be able to do these tasks efficiently): 3D design and modeling Assembly drawings and dimensional drawings Assembly modeling and organization Static simulation Basic fabrication skills, such as cutting, drilling, tapping, etc. Basic mechanical skills (be comfortable building something with your hands)
