Job Title:
Tooling Design Engineer Job Description We are seeking a skilled Tooling Design Engineer to conceptualize and develop innovative tool and die solutions tailored to manufacturing needs, customer specifications, and production volume requirements. Responsibilities Develop tool and die concepts based on specific manufacturing needs and customer specifications. Create detailed designs, blueprints, 3D models, and flat blank geometry for laser cutting using SolidWorks/LogoPress and Cadkey. Design punch press tooling, including temporary stage tooling and complex progressive dies equipped with sensors and automation. Design weld fixtures, assembly fixtures, and inspection fixtures. Build and test prototypes to ensure tools meet functional, design, and customer specifications. Select appropriate materials such as steel, springs, punches, bolts, dowels, metals, plastics, and composites for durability, cost, and performance. Oversee tool and die fabrication to ensure precision and quality. Place and approve requisitions for dies, fixtures, and required materials. Plan manufacturing processes, selecting techniques such as machining, stamping, injection molding, or laser cutting. Collaborate with Programmer, EDM, CNC mill, Press Brake, Quality, and Toolmaker teams to support tool design and production. Create or import part models and generate flat blank geometry, working with Press Brake and Quality departments to develop blanks. Ensure quality control and cost efficiency in tool and die production. Essential Skills Tool design Proficiency in SolidWorks and Cadkey Design of tool and die concepts for manufacturing Experience with machining, stamping, laser cutting, and injection molding machines Additional Skills & Qualifications Project management Strong team collaboration and communication skills Experience in product design and integration Work Environment This position requires working onsite 100% of the time. The company is committed to growth, aiming to double its headcount in the next five years. The facility has been recently remodeled, especially in the tool and die area, providing a fresh and modern work environment. Additionally, there is a 5% project bonus available for successful work referrals. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Saint Paul, MN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $36.00 - $51.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
