Job Description

The Department of Mining and Explosives Engineering (MEE) and the O'Keefe Center for Critical Minerals are seeking an Engineering Technician II to support research activities in the two units. This is a 50-50 appointment between the two units, and the successful candidate is expected to split their time evenly between the two. This role is central to advancing the research mission by providing hands-on technical expertise, maintaining specialized equipment and laboratories, and assisting in the development, testing, and execution of experimental systems. While the primary focus is research support, the position also includes a limited role in supporting instructional laboratories and student projects.
The duties will include:
Collaborate directly with engineering faculty, graduate students, and research staff to execute and support research projects Design, build, modify, and troubleshoot experimental setups, prototypes, and instrumentation systems Operate, maintain, and calibrate laboratory and field equipment, ensuring accuracy, reliability, and compliance with safety standards Assist in data collection, processing, and documentation for research experiments and field studies Source, fabricate, or coordinate procurement of components and materials needed for research work Contribute to the development of test procedures, protocols, and technical documentation Maintain organized, safe, and efficient research laboratory environments Shift Monday-Friday, Days, Some Travel, Occasionally work past 5:00 pm. Minimum Qualifications An Associate's degree or an equivalent combination of education and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary Preferred Qualifications Background in mechanical and/or electrical systems and maintenance thereof Ability to obtain Hazmat CDL certification within 1 year Anticipated Hiring Range The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $17.05-$23.37 hourly. Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
