Job Description

As a Mechanical Engineering Intern at Leidos' Long Beach, MS location, you will join a multidisciplinary engineering team focused on developing, testing, and supporting advanced mechanical systems and components. You will work on real-world projects that strengthen your mechanical engineering skill set while contributing to meaningful advancements in technology and system performance.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the design, modeling, and analysis of mechanical components and assemblies.
  • Support prototype fabrication, assembly, and testing activities.
  • Perform mechanical testing, data collection, and documentation of results.
  • Collaborate with engineers to evaluate system performance and recommend improvements.
  • Conduct research on materials, manufacturing methods, and mechanical design best practices.
  • Prepare technical documentation, drawings, and reports related to mechanical engineering tasks.
Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled in a degree program in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, AutoCAD).
  • Understanding of basic mechanical principles such as statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, or materials science.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Enthusiastic about hands‑on engineering work and learning new tools and methods.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills. Preferred (but not required):
  • Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) tools (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus).
  • Exposure to manufacturing processes, machining, or rapid prototyping.
  • Familiarity with engineering testing equipment or instrumentation.

Pay Range:
Pay Range $48,100.00 - $86,950.00 The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary.
