Mechanical Engineer - III (Equipment Design)
Location:
Charlotte, NC (100% Onsite)
Contract:
6 Months (Potential Extension) We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer III to support the design, development, integration, and optimization of advanced automation equipment and precision mechanical systems within a manufacturing environment. This role is ideal for an engineer with a strong background in mechanical design, automation equipment, motion control systems, and manufacturing process improvement. Responsibilities Design and develop mechanical components, fixtures, tooling, and automation systems for manufacturing applications. Create detailed engineering designs and drawings using SolidWorks and other CAD tools. Support the installation, integration, commissioning, and validation of manufacturing equipment. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate mechanical systems into production processes. Analyze equipment performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement improvements to enhance reliability and efficiency. Apply engineering principles to model, simulate, and validate designs. Support projects involving motion control systems, thermal equipment, and precision automation solutions. Prepare and maintain technical documentation including specifications, reports, and validation protocols. Ensure compliance with safety standards and industry best practices. Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or related discipline. 7+ years of experience in manufacturing, automation, or equipment engineering environments. Strong experience in the design and installation of manufacturing or automation equipment. Proficiency with SolidWorks and CAD-based mechanical design. Experience designing fixtures, tooling, material handling systems, and production equipment. Knowledge of motion control systems including servo motors, stepper motors, linear actuators, and related automation technologies. Understanding of heat transfer principles and experience specifying or installing thermal equipment. Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and collaboration abilities. Preferred Qualifications Experience with precision automation systems. Experience with system integration and manufacturing process optimization. Familiarity with AutoCAD or Autodesk Inventor. Experience supporting capital equipment projects from design through implementation. Additional Information 100% onsite role in Charlotte, NC. Candidates outside the area will be considered if willing to relocate or travel at their own expense. Occasional travel to vendor and supplier sites across North America may be required (ranging from day trips to one-week durations). Interview Process Virtual interview with Hiring Manager.
