Job Title:
Entry Mechanical Engineer Job Description The Mechanical Drafter will play a key role in the success of the organization by creating accurate mechanical drawings, supporting product development, and collaborating closely with engineering, sales, and production teams. This role focuses on mechanical drafting, CNC programming and nesting, and active involvement in engineering projects, processes, budgets, and timelines to ensure projects are completed accurately and on schedule. Responsibilities Serve as an engineering design and technical resource for engineering, sales, production teams, and internal and external customers. Work directly with the Engineering Manager and the Engineering Draft Team to address questions and resolve issues raised by engineering, sales, and operations staff. Check and confirm the accuracy and completeness of drawings and related work performed by the engineering draft team. Develop detailed part drawings from structural drawings and prepare these part drawings for nesting. Use nesting software to prepare and review part nests prior to sending them to the post-processor, then review and post nests for fabrication. Assist in various research and development initiatives to identify opportunities for new projects and improved processes. Communicate and collaborate with the engineering team and production staff to ensure that project workflows and process steps stay on schedule. Support fabrication teams by providing quick resolutions to priorities, questions, and production issues related to drawings and nests. Learn and perform additional drafting, mechanical design, and related engineering tasks as needed to support the team and ongoing projects. Essential Skills Proven mechanical drafting experience. Hands-on experience with SolidWorks for mechanical design and drafting. AutoCAD drafting experience, including the ability to pull out features and develop and manipulate parts. Ability to review newly created parts and prepare them for the nesting operation. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and PowerPoint. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to multitask and thrive in a timeline-driven environment. Strong sense of urgency and goal-driven mindset. Analytical and mathematical mindset with the ability to evaluate information and solve problems. Ability to work effectively as a strong team player. Self-motivated attitude with a drive to learn new tools, technologies, and processes quickly. Additional Skills & Qualifications Certification in SolidWorks and/or other 3D modeling software. Certification in AutoCAD. Experience supporting CNC programming and nesting processes. Interest in participating in research and development initiatives to improve products and processes. Willingness to expand skills in mechanical design, drafting, and related engineering functions. Work Environment This role operates in a collaborative engineering and production environment, working closely with drafting, engineering, sales, and fabrication teams. The position involves regular use of SolidWorks, AutoCAD, nesting software, and standard office applications such as Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. Work is timeline-driven, with a strong focus on accuracy, attention to detail, and responsiveness to production priorities. The environment encourages continuous learning, problem solving, and teamwork to keep projects and fabrication activities on schedule. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Wilkesboro, NC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
