Mechanical Design Engineer

Mechanical Design Engineer Job Description As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing complete mechanical systems using 3D CAD (SolidWorks) for custom frames, mechanisms, and assemblies. You will conduct on-site customer visits to gather pre-design information and understand application requirements. You will communicate directly with customers to define and refine system parameters and functional requirements. Additionally, you will lead and participate in internal and external design review meetings, generate detailed part and assembly drawings for fabrication, and create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs). Responsibilities Design complete mechanical systems using 3D CAD (SolidWorks), including custom frames, mechanisms, and assemblies. Conduct occasional on-site customer visits to gather pre-design information and understand application requirements. Communicate directly with customers to define and refine system parameters and functional requirements. Lead and participate in internal and external design review meetings. Generate detailed part and assembly drawings for fabrication and assembly. Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs). Troubleshoot mechanical issues and develop solutions during machine build and testing. Provide occasional hands-on support with in-house machine assembly. Assist with on-site installation and commissioning as needed. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline. 5+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in custom machine or automated equipment environments. Proven ability to design custom machinery from scratch, not just modify existing designs. Proficiency in SolidWorks for 3D system layouts, assemblies, and detailing. Experience in automation, system integrator, or machine design environments. Broad mechanical design experience covering frames, mechanisms, assemblies, and system-level layouts. Understanding of machining, CNC, and fabrication methods, with a design-for-manufacturability mindset. Experience supporting designs through build, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning. Additional Skills & Qualifications Ability to translate open-ended requirements into complete mechanical solutions. Experience in designing automated or semi-automated equipment. Experience working in or alongside automation companies, system integrators, or controls-focused teams. Ability to consider multiple machine aspects including structure, motion, and integration points. Capability of operating as a individual contributor. Willingness and ability to support and mentor other engineers. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Springfield, NJ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $47.00 - $54.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
