Job Title:
Mechanical Design Engineer Job Description We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role involves designing complete mechanical systems using 3D CAD (SolidWorks) and includes creating custom frames, mechanisms, and assemblies. You will conduct on-site visits to gather pre-design information, collaborate with customers to refine system parameters, and lead design review meetings. Your expertise will be crucial in generating detailed part and assembly drawings, creating and maintaining Bills of Materials (BOMs), and troubleshooting mechanical issues during machine builds. Responsibilities Conduct occasional on-site customer visits to gather pre-design information and understand application requirements. Design complete mechanical systems using 3D CAD (SolidWorks), including custom frames, mechanisms, and assemblies. Communicate directly with customers to define and refine system parameters and functional requirements. Lead and participate in internal and external design review meetings. Generate detailed part and assembly drawings for fabrication and assembly. Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs). Troubleshoot mechanical issues and develop solutions during machine build and testing. Provide occasional hands-on support with in-house machine assembly. Assist with on-site installation and commissioning as needed. Essential Skills Proficiency in SolidWorks for 3D system layouts, assemblies, and detailing. Background in designing automated or semi-automated equipment. Broad mechanical design experience covering frames, mechanisms, assemblies, and interfaces. Working knowledge of machining, CNC, and fabrication processes. Ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues during machine build, testing, and startup. Experience communicating with customers to define system requirements. Participation in or leadership of design review meetings. Capability to operate as a senior individual contributor. Additional Skills & Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline. 5+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in custom machine or automated equipment environments. Proven ability to design custom machinery from scratch. Experience in automation, system integrator, or machine design environments. Understanding of machining, CNC, and fabrication methods, with a design-for-manufacturability mindset. Willingness to mentor and support other engineers. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Summit, NJ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $47.00 - $54.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
