Full-time About Abtex LLC Abtex LLC is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the design and development of machinery, equipment, and related mechanical systems. This role is ideal for a candidate who enjoys solving mechanical problems, working with 3D models, and contributing to practical equipment design. Position Summary The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for designing, modeling, detailing, and improving machines, equipment, components, and assemblies. The ideal candidate should have a strong interest in machine and equipment design, experience with 3D CAD software, and a willingness to be hands-on when needed to support shop, assembly, testing, and startup activities. Autodesk Inventor will be the primary design software used in this role. Experience with other 3D CAD platforms is important to provide a strong foundation for transitioning to Inventor. Key Responsibilities Develop 3D models, assemblies, and detailed drawings for mechanical components, machines, and equipment. Use Autodesk Inventor to create and maintain mechanical designs, drawings, and assemblies. Assist in the design and improvement of new and existing machinery. Prepare engineering drawings, bills of materials, and supporting documentation. Work closely with manufacturing, assembly, and engineering teams to ensure designs are practical, manufacturable, and cost-effective. Provide hands-on support in the shop when required, including assisting with assembly, troubleshooting, testing, modifications, and equipment improvements. Review and revise designs based on feedback from production, testing, customers, and startup activities. Support equipment startups, including occasional travel to customer or project sites as necessary. Maintain accurate design files, drawings, and project documentation. Participate in design reviews and contribute ideas for product and process improvements. Qualifications Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Design, Drafting, or a related technical field required. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field preferred. Experience with 3D CAD modeling software required. Willingness and ability to transition quickly from another 3D CAD platform if not already familiar with Inventor. Strong interest in machine design, equipment design, automation, manufacturing, or mechanical systems. Ability to read and create mechanical drawings. Willingness to be hands-on and assist in the shop when needed. Ability and willingness to travel occasionally for equipment startups. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment. Basic understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, tolerances, and mechanical components preferred. Preferred Experience Experience designing machinery, fixtures, tooling, equipment, or mechanical assemblies. Familiarity with sheet metal, weldments, machining, fabrication, bearings, motors, drives, pneumatics, or other mechanical systems. Previous experience in a manufacturing, machine design, or industrial equipment environment. Hands-on experience with mechanical assembly, troubleshooting, or equipment installation. Work Environment This position is based at Abtex LLC, 89 Main Street, Dresden, NY. The role will include work in an office/design environment as well as occasional time in the shop or manufacturing area. Occasional travel may be required to support equipment startups, installations, or troubleshooting.
