55270BR Intern - Engineering General Atomics Rochester New York Job Summary General Atomics (GA), and its affiliated companies, is one of the world's leading resources for high-technology systems development ranging from the nuclear fuel cycle to remotely piloted aircraft, airborne sensors, and advanced electric, electronic, wireless and laser technologies. We currently have an exciting part time year round local Internship opportunity in our Inertial Fusion Technology (IFT) Group at our Rochester, New York location in support of target fabrication for the National Inertial Fusion program. The IFT Group is a lead fabricator of precision components in support of fusion ignition experiments at the National Laboratories. Undergraduate students with a field of study in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or similar from an accredited university local to Rochester, New York are encouraged to apply.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Works under general supervision in the IFT Group to assist in activities related to fabrication, metrology, and quality of precision components. Supports staff in other areas related to inertial fusion technology and target fabrication as required. Participates in the day-to-day activities of the assigned functional area assisting in the completion of advanced tasks and problem-solving. Communicates and presents on results of assigned projects. Under general supervision, participates in the day-to-day activities of assigned functional area assisting in the completion of routine and non-routine tasks. Assists in applying knowledge to analyze, investigate and resolve problems. Assists in developing electronic and hard copy reports, records, diagrams and charts. Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company. Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices. Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or similar. Requires active enrollment and currently attending as an undergraduate student at a recognized college or university. Applicants who will have completed their undergraduate degree by the time the internship program would begin, must be planning to continue in a graduate program immediately following the conclusion of the internship program. 3.0 cumulative GPA preferred Ability to understand new concepts and apply them accurately. Ability to follow general and detailed instructions as well as organizational policies and procedures. Basic communication and interpersonal skills to enable effective interface with internal professionals. Ability to work independently or in a team environment. Basic computer skills. This position pays at an hourly rate of $29.00 - $31.00/hr., depending on your specific field of study and the number of college years completed.
