Full Job Description Summary Description:

Meloon Foundries (Upstate NY) is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Pattern/Tooling Engineer to join our manufacturing team. This role involves the regular tasks of a Tooling Engineer ensuring proper preparation of sand molds to meet customer casting drawings.

Essential Functions:

Ensure all company and customer owned tooling is properly managed & perform qualification measures of the equipment prior to production. Develop sample sand molding processes to validate castings to achieve customer specifications. Repair wood patterns & ensure flasks are sized for No-Bake & Floor molding processes. Manage the outsourced pattern shops to ensure the parting line of castings, amount of draft to be allowed, metal shrinkage, & determine the riser and gating system configurations. Review and provide input on product and tool design changes to meet customer blueprints for manufacturability and cost effectiveness. Responsible for the routine maintenance and changes to existing sand tooling. Maintain tooling to optimize efficiency, ensure dimensional accuracy and coordinate necessary modifications as required. Review all manufacturing processes to ensure that daily production achieves quoted parameters, including scrap & re-work rates. Maintain active tooling database with details regarding production issues, maintenance performed, amount of scrap output, and general pattern conditions. Understand properties & solidification of aluminum and brass, as well as various molding methods. Quotes, analyzes and manages any cost reductions and improvements in current production and continuous improvement projects

Skills or Experience Required:

High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution, preferably an A.A.S. in related engineering discipline. Must have work experience within sand foundry industry. Five years' experience as a Tooling and/or Quality Engineer. Communicate with customers on all aspects of the products and/or tooling. Must have a strong desire to be on the shop floor.

Other Position Requirements:

Previous quality engineering positions are desirable. Must have strong interpersonal skills including being capable of working with others in the resolution of problems.
