Senior Mechanical Engineer

Position SummaryIn this role, you will own the design and development of mechanical subsystems and assemblies for ruggedized communications and signals intelligence products. You will work across the full product lifecyclefrom concept through prototype, test, and productionensuring designs meet performance, durability, and manufacturability requirements.

You will be successful if you can independently execute complex mechanical designs, collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, and translate design intent into hardware that performs reliably in demanding environments. This role requires strong technical judgment, hands-on problem solving, and the ability to drive work forward with minimal oversight while supporting and guiding less experienced team members.

What Youll Do Own the design and development of mechanical components, assemblies, and subsystems for ruggedized electromechanical systems Develop and maintain CAD models, drawing packages, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) Drive designs from concept through prototype, validation, and production release Collaborate with electrical, RF, software, NPI, and manufacturing teams to ensure successful system integration Support and participate in prototype and pilot builds, working closely with engineering technicians to validate and refine designs Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical and system-level issues identified during development, build, and test activities Apply design principles related to structural integrity, thermal performance, and environmental durability Contribute to design reviews, identifying risks and supporting mitigation strategies Work with suppliers and manufacturing teams to refine designs for manufacturability, cost, and scalability Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to engineering techniciansWhat Youll bring Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field 37 years of experience in mechanical design and product development Proficiency in 3D CAD software (Inventor, SolidWorks, Creo, or similar) Experience creating and maintaining engineering drawings, BOMs, and design documentation Demonstrated ability to independently execute mechanical designs for components and assemblies Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues Experience working in a cross-functional engineering environment Preferred QualificationsExperience with ruggedized electronics or electromechanical packaging Familiarity with prototype builds, NPI environments, or low-volume production Knowledge of MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, or similar environmental standards Understanding of DFM/DFA principles and manufacturing processes Our Firmware At Metrea, our single core value, Rooted in Humility, and our four cornerstone attributesEntrepreneurial, Systematic, Discerning, and Over-Deliver. Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time exempt position with typical working hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Hours and work shifts may changein accordance withdepartment and business needs.
