Employment Type:
Full-time Spectral Energies, LLC is seeking experienced engineers to support the development, integration, and testing of advanced laser systems. We are hiring for three positions: 1. Electrical/Electronics Control Engineer 2. High-Voltage Electrical Engineer 3. Mechanical Engineer These positions will support the design, build, integration, and testing of electrical, electronic, mechanical, thermal, and control systems for advanced laser platforms. Position 1: Electrical/Electronics Control Engineer The Electrical/Electronics Control Engineer will be responsible for designing, building, testing, and troubleshooting control systems for laser-based platforms. The candidate should have strong experience with electrical and electronic controls, instrumentation, system wiring, sensors, PCB circuit designs, interlocks, data acquisition, and control hardware.
Responsibilities include:
  • Design and build electrical/electronic control systems for laser platforms
  • Develop control architectures for laser operation, monitoring, and safety
  • Integrate sensors, switches, interlocks, power supplies, and control electronics
  • Support wiring, PCB design, troubleshooting, and system-level testing
  • Work with scientists, engineers, and technicians to integrate laser subsystems
  • Prepare drawings, schematics, documentation, and test procedures
  • Support laboratory and field testing of laser systems Required Qualifications for Electrical/Electronics Positions
  • US Citizen
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working with electrical systems, electronics, controls, power electronics, or related electrical/electronic systems
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field
  • Hands-on experience designing, building, testing, and troubleshooting electrical/electronic systems
  • Experience with system integration
  • Ability to work in a laboratory environment with lasers, power supplies, electronics, and test equipment
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to document designs, procedures, test results, and system configurations Position 2: Power Electronics Engineer The Power Electronics Engineer will support the design, development, assembly, and testing of the hardware that converts and controls electrical power, such as inverters, converters, and fast-charging interfaces including Battery Management System (BMS).
The candidate should have significant hands-on experience with electronics responsible for controlling electrical power systems, including safety management and troubleshooting.
Responsibilities include:
  • Design, build, and test up to 1 kV electrical/electronic power systems for laser platforms
  • Work with high-power power supplies, pulsed systems, capacitors, switching circuits, and related components
  • Support electrical safety, grounding, shielding, insulation, and safety interlock design
  • Troubleshoot high-voltage circuits and laser-related electrical systems
  • Prepare electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and system documentation
  • Design and troubleshooting of PCB boards for power management
  • Support integration of high-voltage subsystems into complete laser platforms
  • Ensure systems are designed and operated safely and reliably Required Qualifications for Power Electronics Engineer Positions
  • US Citizen
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working with power related electrical systems or related electrical/electronic systems
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field
  • Hands-on experience designing, building, testing, and troubleshooting of power systems
  • Experience with up to 1 kV up to 10 kW power electronics systems, control systems, instrumentation, sensors, wiring, schematics, and system integration
  • Ability to work in a laboratory environment with lasers, power supplies, electronics, and test equipment
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to document designs, procedures, test results, and system configurations Position 3: Mechanical Engineer The Mechanical Engineer will support the design, development, analysis, fabrication, and integration of mechanical and thermal systems for advanced laser platforms.
The candidate should have strong design and drawing skills, including proficiency with SolidWorks and similar CAD software, along with strong fundamentals in heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and structural stress analysis.
Responsibilities include:
  • Design mechanical components, assemblies, mounts, housings, cooling systems, and support structures for laser systems
  • Prepare detailed engineering drawings, fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, and bills of materials
  • Use SolidWorks or similar software for 3D modeling, design development, and mechanical documentation
  • Perform engineering calculations related to heat transfer, thermal management, fluid flow, pressure drop, cooling, and structural design
  • Support the design of liquid cooling, air cooling, thermal management, and fluid-handling systems
  • Work with electrical, optical, and laser engineers to integrate mechanical designs into complete laser platforms
  • Support prototype fabrication, assembly, alignment, testing, and troubleshooting
  • Coordinate with vendors and machine shops for fabrication of custom components
  • Prepare design documentation, test procedures, and technical reports Required qualifications:
  • US Citizen
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant engineering experience
  • Strong proficiency with SolidWorks or/and Simens NX
  • Strong design drawing and mechanical documentation skills
  • Strong understanding of heat transfer and fluid mechanics
  • Experience designing mechanical systems, thermal systems, cooling systems, or fluid-handling systems
  • Hands-on experience with prototype development, system integration, and troubleshooting
  • Ability to work in a laboratory environment with lasers, electronics, optics, and test equipment Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with laser systems, pulsed lasers, optical laboratory systems, or advanced research and development systems
  • Experience supporting government, defense, aerospace, or research-and-development programs
  • Experience with high-voltage power supplies, pulsed power, capacitors, switching circuits, or power electronics
  • Experience with PLCs, microcontrollers, LabVIEW, data acquisition systems, or embedded control systems
  • Familiarity with electrical safety practices for high-voltage and laser systems
  • Experience with mechanical design for optical, laser, thermal, or fluid systems
  • Experience with thermal analysis, cooling system design, CFD, or FEA
  • Experience preparing electrical drawings, mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, fabrication drawings, and test documentation Desired Candidate The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer who can design, build, troubleshoot, and improve electrical, electronic, mechanical, thermal, or control systems in a fast-paced research and development environment.
