Job Description

Mechanical Engineer - Custom Automation & Machine Tool Design We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our growing custom automation and machine tool team. This role is ideal for an engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys solving complex mechanical challenges, and has a strong background designing automated machinery from concept through production. The successful candidate will work on multiple concurrent projects involving custom automation systems, machine tools, robotic integration, and manufacturing equipment. You will collaborate closely with controls engineers, manufacturing teams, project managers, suppliers, and customers to develop reliable, manufacturable solutions that meet performance, cost, and schedule requirements. Responsibilities Design and develop custom automated machinery, machine tools, fixtures, and mechanical systems Create detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and project milestones Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles to improve manufacturability, assembly, reliability, and cost efficiency Perform mechanical calculations, component sizing, tolerance analysis, and system layout development Select mechanical components including motors, gearboxes, bearings, actuators, linear motion systems, and pneumatic/hydraulic components Collaborate with controls engineers to integrate sensors, robotics, motion systems, and automation hardware Support machine build, assembly, troubleshooting, testing, and customer acceptance activities Work with suppliers and internal manufacturing teams to resolve technical and production issues Participate in design reviews and continuous improvement initiatives Qualifications 3+ years of experience designing and developing custom automated machinery or machine tools Strong experience with 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar platforms Demonstrated ability to manage multiple engineering projects simultaneously Strong understanding of machining, fabrication, assembly methods, and manufacturing processes Experience applying Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles Knowledge of pneumatics, servo systems, robotics, and motion control systems preferred Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment Preferred Experience Custom automation or special machine design Robotic integration and automated production systems Machine safety standards and risk assessments Hands-on machine startup and troubleshooting Experience in high-speed automation or precision equipment design What We Offer Opportunity to work on highly customized, technically challenging projects Collaborative engineering environment with strong project ownership Competitive compensation and benefits package Career growth within an innovative automation company
