Dayton, Ohio Position Summary:
The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and support of vertical die casting presses to meet customer-specific requirements. This role involves engineering calculations, 3D modeling, technical documentation, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure designs meet performance, safety, cost, and quality objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and develop custom vertical die casting presses, including frames, tooling, loading, unloading, and other mechanical systems. Interpret customer specifications and translate them into engineering solutions. Prepare detailed CAD models, drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs). Perform engineering calculations (stress, load, safety factors) and review designs for manufacturability. Collaborate with electrical, controls, and process engineers to ensure complete system integration. Support prototype builds, assembly, and testing of new presses. Develop and maintain technical documentation, including design records, test procedures, and compliance reports. Provide technical support to manufacturing, assembly, and service teams. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to press performance, reliability, and safety. Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and company quality policies. Complete assigned projects successfully within established budget and schedule.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. 4+ years of experience in custom machinery design, preferably hydraulic presses or heavy equipment. Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks or equivalent). Offers the opportunity for limited travel (around 5%) to customer locations, typically 3-7 days per trip. Skills/Qualifications Strong knowledge of hydraulic systems, mechanical design, and stress analysis. Familiarity with manufacturing processes (welding, machining, fabrication). Ability to analyze and solve complex engineering problems. Strong communication skills and ability to work in cross-functional teams. Detail-oriented with strong organizational and documentation skills. Fluid Power Specialist Certification preferred Knowledge of industry codes and standards (ANSI, OSHA, CE, etc.) is a plus.
