About the Role The role of the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer is to develop concepts and well-engineered mechanical designs for mechanisms used in automated assembly systems. Use CAD to produce layouts, parts, assemblies, detail drawings, and bill of materials. Work with other project team members to meet or exceed the Customer's expectations regarding function, quality and schedule and extend effort and commitment to meet schedules. Adhere to all established procedures as defined by ATS Quality Procedures, Process Flows, Work Instructions, Safety Procedures, and the Employee Handbook.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Mentor less experienced engineers.
  • Participate in planning phase of new projects and ensure mechanical team receives necessary information for project completion.
  • Review team designs and ensure uniformity and completion of designs.
  • Produce mechanical work packages for assigned equipment with a focus on high-risk technical equipment.
  • Produce and requisition complete bills of material for assigned project equipment
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
  • A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, mechanical design, or equivalent experience.
Experience:
  • Minimum five years' experience in mechanical design.
  • Must have ability to work with and communicate effectively with people at all levels of the organization.
  • Must have at least 1-2 years of 3D design experience with SolidWorks 3D CAD software.
  • Experience with linear motion, part handling, and automation system design.
  • Leadership experience in a technical design team setting.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Work in compliance with divisional Health, Safety, and Environmental Procedures.
  • Refrain from removing or altering safety devices or guarding unless hazardous energies are controlled through Lockout-Tagout methods.
  • Report any unsafe conditions or unsafe acts.
  • Report defect in any equipment or protective device.
  • Ensure that the required protective equipment is used for the assigned task.
  • Attend all required Health, Safety, and Environmental training.
  • Report any accidents/incidents.
  • Assist in investigating any accidents/incidents.
  • Refrain from engaging in any prank, contest, feat of strength, unnecessary running, or rough and boisterous conduct.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
  • The employee may be required to stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor.
  • Exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or exert up to 10 pounds of force frequently. 
  • Visual Acuity
  • Normal requirements for reading written instructions and computer screens
  • Hearing Ability
  • Normal requirements for understanding verbal instructions. 
  • Working Conditions
  • The employee is subject to a normal office environment with occasional exposure to high noise levels and/or physical hazards when visiting manufacturing floor.
