Job Description

Tool Design Engineer Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00
PM Salary Range:
$85,000-$100,000 annually
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Tool Room Supervisor, the Tool Designer is responsible for the design and development of complex dies, tools, gauges, jigs, fixtures, and related tooling. This role requires a thorough understanding of manufacturing methods, machining practices, engineering principles, and tooling design. The Tool Designer will work from process sheets, engineering drawings, and customer requirements to create cost-effective tooling solutions that support production efficiency while meeting quality, tolerance, and delivery objectives.
Essential Responsibilities:
Design practical, efficient, and cost-effective tooling solutions that meet manufacturing requirements and customer commitments. Develop tooling designs for dies, fixtures, gauges, jigs, and related equipment using sound engineering principles. Apply strong 3D visualization and spatial reasoning skills to tooling design and development. Maintain proficiency in 3D CAD design and modeling, including Siemens NX. Plan, research, and execute engineering activities for complex tooling projects. Create and maintain bills of materials (BOMs), part numbers, engineering drawings, and technical documentation required for tooling manufacture and operation. Participate in product and tooling design reviews, providing technical input and Design for Manufacturability (DFM) recommendations. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure project objectives, schedules, and quality requirements are achieved. Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities to enhance manufacturing efficiency, reduce downtime, and improve tooling performance. Support engineering initiatives and provide assistance on significant projects as needed. Communicate technical information effectively through formal documentation and presentations. Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety requirements, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Perform other duties as assigned in support of organizational goals and objectives.
Qualifications:
Education Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline preferred. Equivalent experience in a directly related role may be considered in lieu of a degree. Experience & Skills Minimum of five (5) years of experience in tool design, with emphasis on tool holding fixtures. Proficiency with Siemens NX CAD software. Strong understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and Statistical Process Control (SPC). Experience developing new tooling designs and implementing major tooling design improvements. Knowledge of manufacturing processes, machining practices, and tooling applications. Ability to apply mathematical concepts, including probability, statistical inference, geometry, and trigonometry, to engineering and design challenges. #IND2
