Job Description

SSI Shredding Systems, Inc. is a leader of designing and manufacturing innovative shredding solutions for the recycling industry. Our team of passionate engineers, designers, and technicians continuously pushes to create industry-leading products that create lasting value for our customers. Join a collaborative engineering team focused on designing and improving industry-leading shredding systems from concept through production. This role combines hands-on design, new product development, and close collaboration with manufacturing to deliver high-quality, customer-driven solutions while continuously advancing engineering and drafting standards. New product development, with emphasis on structural, mechanical, and hydraulic system design. Develop detailed 3D models and manufacturing drawings to support production. Work cross-functionally with sales, project management, and electrical engineering to deliver customer-driven solutions. Collaborate with the production floor on prototypes and existing designs. Drive continuous improvement of existing products, focusing on performance, manufacturability, and cost. Create and check drawings and models for accuracy and conformance to SSI drafting standards.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of drafting standards, design practices, and engineering procedures.
Skills Proficient in 3D CAD modeling (SolidWorks preferred; PDM experience a plus). Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams. Experience with mechanical design, drafting, and manufacturing processes. Analytical mindset with the ability to develop practical, well-reasoned solutions. High attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work. Knowledge Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. 3+ years of experience in mechanical and/or hydraulic system design. Working knowledge of steel fabrication, welding, machining, and material properties. Understanding of statics, stress analysis, and material strength principles. Experience performing engineering calculations, including structural sizing and hydraulic/pneumatic system design. Ability Able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, project-driven environment. Capable of interpreting customer requirements and translating them into practical design solutions. Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and take ownership of projects. Willingness to work occasional overtime to meet project deadlines. This role requires extended periods of computer-based design work and regular interaction with an active fabrication shop environment. Candidates must be able to safely navigate a dynamic manufacturing setting. Occasional overtime and travel may be required. This is a full-time, on-site position (Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week).
