Job Description

Lead Mechanical Project Engineer ( Full-Time, Experienced) The Opportunity Precision Cobotics is built on the belief that exceptional results come from passionate people working together. We have earned the trust of our customers by delivering successful automation projects, maintaining strong supplier relationships, and building a team that enjoys solving difficult challenges. We are seeking a Lead Mechanical Project Engineer who wants more than a narrow engineer role. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys ownership, embraces accountability, and is energized by helping projects, customers, and teammates succeed. Unlike larger organizations where responsibilities are often highly specialized, our leaders are expected to contribute wherever needed. Successful candidates enjoy bringing structure to complex projects, balancing competing priorities, and creating order from chaos while maintaining focus on customer success. If you are motivated by continuous learning, emerging technologies, meaningful responsibility, and the opportunity to help shape the future of a growing automation company, we would love to meet you. Position Summary The Lead Mechanical Project Engineer serves as both a technical leader and project execution leader responsible for delivering successful automation projects from concept through customer acceptance. You will lead the design of custom automation equipment, robotic workcells, fixtures and tooling in SolidWorks from concept through production-ready documentation. This role also supports engineering resource planning across multiple active projects, helping balance priorities, forecast capacity needs, and ensure successful project delivery. Successful candidates are comfortable managing projects while coordinating customers, schedules, budgets, and cross-functional teams while also directly contributing to the engineering efforts to execute the project. Willing to travel to customer sites for pre-sales and project execution support up to 10%. Key Responsibilities Mechanical Design Lead the mechanical design of custom automation equipment, tooling, and fixtures in SolidWorks. Create and maintain complete design documentation: detailed part drawings, assembly drawings, BOMs, and design specifications. Design for manufacturability working closely with fabrication vendors and the internal build team. Perform design reviews and analysis to validate fit with electrical and controls systems. Develop custom brackets and prototype components; perform 3D printing and in-house fabrication. Maintain and improve SolidWorks design standards, templates, and the company parts library. Project Management Own project delivery on assigned projects including scope, schedule, resource planning, material management, budget tracking, customer communication, and customer acceptance. Monitor financial performance, project risks, and resource conflicts while maintaining overall project profitability and schedule adherence. Lead project kickoff meetings, design reviews, customer updates, and change management activities throughout the project lifecycle. Collaborate with Sales, Applications Engineering, suppliers, and fabrication partners to ensure accurate project scoping and successful execution. Support engineering workload planning and resource allocation across multiple active projects. Technical Leadership Serve as the mechanical authority on the project team, ensuring compatibility across mechanical, controls, electrical, and pneumatic systems. Mentor engineers, technicians and interns while promoting accountability and technical excellence. Lead customer acceptance testing and support successful project commissioning. Drive continuous improvement through process standardization and the effective use of AI and emerging technologies. Collaboration & Culture Work hands-on alongside the build team while promoting collaboration, continuous improvement, craftsmanship, and customer satisfaction. Qualifications Experience 5-8 years of mechanical design experience, with a strong focus on custom automation equipment, machine design, or industrial fixtures and tooling. Demonstrated ownership of complete mechanical designs from concept through manufacturing release. Experience managing projects, schedules, budgets, and customer communication. Working knowledge of robotics, machine vision, motion control, PLCs, HMIs, and pneumatic systems preferred. Technical Skills Demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and technology adoption, including AI.
Expert-level SolidWorks proficiency:
part modeling, assemblies, drawings, BOMs, and PDM Experience designing machine frames, weldments, sheet metal, and precision machined components. Familiarity with GD&T, tolerance analysis, and design for manufacturability (DFM). Experience with project scheduling tools (Jira or equivalent). Why Precision Cobotics?
