Job Description

Job Purpose:
The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for engineering and design of mechanical assemblies, automation systems, and other related systems for precision deep-hole drilling machines and special purpose industrial equipment. Completion of machine layout drawings, required calculations, component specification, and other documentation. Performing engineering tasks related to drafting, mechanical analysis, and design, while maintaining confidentiality and supporting company standards. Essential Functions include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 1. Design components and sub-systems of precision drilling machines, including tooling, fixtures, and automation systems. 2. Analyze mechanical systems including bearings, drive belts, ball screws, motor torque and horsepower requirements, machine components, and structural weldments for assurance of function and suitability of use. 3. Draft details of mechanical components of machines, itemized assembly drawings, floor plan layouts, and installation diagrams using AutoCAD. 4. Design hydraulic and pneumatic systems and create schematic drawings. 5. Determine suitability and specify purchased components used in the building of each machine. 6. Create BOMs (bill of materials) for machine assemblies and sub-assemblies. 7. Communicate with customers to clarify machine requirements. 8. Communicate with component suppliers to stay informed of current market trends, and product developments. 9. Interface with fabrication, machine shop, and assembly departments to complete construction of machines, including revision of drawings and incorporation of suggestions as they occur. 10. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Qualifications and Requirements:

BS in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related degree. 2. 2-5 years' experience in design of manufacturing equipment or industrial machinery (preferred). 3. Applied mathematical skills and mechanical analysis ability. 4. Good verbal and written communication skills. 5. Excellent computer skills with drafting and AutoCAD proficiency.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. 2. The work environment is usually an indoor setting with some exposure to outside elements. The noise level in the work environment is tolerable. This position requires infrequent travel, which may involve exposure to extreme weather elements. 3. Must abide by PPE requirements.

From $80,000.00 per year
