Job Title:
Mechanical Engineer 2 Job Description We are seeking a mid-level Mechanical Design Engineer with strong analytic and design skills to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about building and prototyping, and comfortable with fast-paced technical projects. This role requires defining your own requirements, solving complex problems, and communicating effectively within a team environment. Responsibilities Design composite structures, 3D printed, and injection molded plastic parts. Collaborate with Finite Element Analysis partners to optimize structural designs. Manage design projects to meet cost, schedule, and performance targets. Handle large assembly models in CAD and implement best practice top-down modeling. Create interface control documents and generate product and sub-system requirements. Fabricate and test prototypes, interfacing with vendors for manufacturing designs. Produce fully and minimally dimensioned drawings as needed and maintain BOMs. Prepare design presentations and summaries to document work. Demonstrate initiative and complete tasks while considering the perspectives of others. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering; advanced degrees and professional licensing are a plus. 4+ years of experience in a related mechanical engineering role. 1+ years of experience in composite structure design. Proficiency in Solidworks with a minimum of 2 years of experience. Experience with Finite Element Analysis using Solidworks Simulation or similar software. Familiarity with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with composite part design and bonded composite/metallic structures. Familiarity with manufacturing techniques such as composites molding, machining, and 3D printing. Hands-on experience in building and prototyping designs. Experience with aircraft or unmanned aircraft is a strong plus. Project management or leadership experience. Familiarity with hand tools for light prototyping. Experience with Matlab, Octave, or Labview for analysis. Work Environment Our organization is a small design firm specializing in unmanned aerial vehicle design. We provide engineering services, subject matter expertise, and strategic guidance to clients in the UAS space. The work environment is fast-paced yet autonomous, with mentorship provided for project guidance. The ideal candidate will thrive in an innovative atmosphere where they can contribute to crafting exceptional products. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Portland, OR. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $58.00/hr.
