Purpose of Job:
Seafloor Systems is a world-leading manufacturer of Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs) for hydrographic survey. With over 20 years of experience in the industry, we continue to be a market leader in providing innovative survey solutions, from turn-key autonomous USVs to custom hydrographic survey equipment outfitting. We are looking for motivated, self-starting individuals who are looking to integrate into our fast-paced Engineering Department. No two days are the same, so we are looking for a well-rounded engineer who can jump in and tackle any challenges that may arise. Under supervision and with latitude for independent action and decision the Mechanical Engineer will collaborate with a small engineering team to produce components for USV's and Hydrographic Survey Equipment. Duties will include design of new products, redesign of current mechanical / electromechanical components / assemblies, fabrication, assembly, and testing of prototypes, and set-up and performing of verification and validation protocols. Additionally, after gaining expertise in the function and operation of our current products, the qualified applicant should be able to then troubleshoot and solve production and field service issues arising for these products.Essential Job Functions and Performance Standards:
1) Create and modifying SolidWorks models, assemblies, and drawings 2) Integrated 3D printing into product development cycle for rapid prototyping and iteration prior to CNC/molded production 3) Participate in brainstorms and creatively contribute to mechanical and aesthetic solutions 4) Quickly design and build prototypes for proof of concept and design approval 5) Perform calculations involving stress, deflection, drag, performance, and motion analysis 6) Work with manufacturing to handoff new products, investigating product issues or improvements 7) Participate in Engineering meetings, keeping management informed on project progressWork Environment:
The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. May be requested to work overtime and weekends for special projects.Requirements:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or similarExperience:
1-2 years of experience in a manufacturing settingSkills:
- Mechanical system assembly and design
- FDM 3D printer experience
- Understanding electrical systems
- Knowledge of hand and power tools
- Machine shop experience; mill, lathes
- Strong written and communication skills, excellent interpersonal, and listening skills
- Able to solve problems in a timely and efficient manner
- Must be comfortable working for periods of time in production, or the machine shop for building of test units
- Efficient in creating and modifying SolidWorks models, assemblies, and drawings. FEA desired not required
- Familiarity designing parts and assemblies for manufacturing; familiar with bent sheet metal parts, aluminum extrusions, die castings, welded parts, roto-molding, CNC machining, and plastic injection molding desired
