Job Description

Job Title:
Mechanical Engineer Job Description This role focuses on leading mechanical engineering design and analysis for power generation and related systems from concept through commissioning. The Mechanical Engineer develops detailed designs, prepares technical documentation, supports field installation and start-up activities, and collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure that projects meet performance, safety, and regulatory requirements. The position offers the opportunity to work on complex projects involving turbines, engines, and generators, while contributing to the full lifecycle of engineering solutions. Responsibilities + Develop mechanical engineering designs, including equipment lists, general arrangement drawings, and process flow diagrams (PFDs), in alignment with project requirements. + Prepare detailed technical specifications and sizing calculations for major equipment, such as gas compression, gas conditioning, and power generation systems. + Perform intermediate complexity engineering design tasks, including mechanical analysis, calculations, research, and equipment selection to ensure reliable and efficient operation. + Conduct thorough reviews and analyses of mechanical designs to verify compliance with industry standards, applicable regulations, and client specifications. + Select appropriate equipment and components based on technical requirements, analysis results, and project constraints. + Use SolidWorks and AutoCAD to create, modify, and review mechanical models, drawings, and design documentation. + Support field installation activities by providing technical guidance to construction and installation personnel. + Assist with pre-commissioning and start-up activities, ensuring that mechanical systems are installed, tested, and commissioned in accordance with design and performance requirements. + Troubleshoot mechanical issues during installation, commissioning, and early operation, and recommend corrective actions. + Collaborate with third-party OEM packagers and general contractors to coordinate mechanical engineering activities and ensure alignment with overall project objectives. + Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including electrical, controls, and process engineers, to integrate mechanical designs into complete system solutions. + Participate in project meetings, design reviews, and client presentations to communicate design progress, findings, and recommendations clearly and effectively. + Manage and track engineering deliverables such as bills of materials (BOMs), drawings, and specifications to support project schedules. + Contribute to new product development efforts by applying mechanical engineering principles, GD&T practices, and analysis software tools. + Support project management activities by providing technical input on scope, schedule, and risk related to mechanical engineering work. + Ensure that projects progress from concept to completion, including support through commissioning and handover for power generation applications. Essential Skills + 8+ years of experience in mechanical engineering. + 5+ years of familiarity with commissioning activities for mechanical or power generation systems. + Proven experience working on projects from concept to completion, including support through commissioning. + Experience with turbines, engines, or generators in power generation or related applications. + Proficiency with SolidWorks for mechanical modeling and design. + Proficiency with AutoCAD for creating and modifying mechanical drawings and general arrangements. + in mechanical design, including calculations, analysis, and use of analysis software. + Demonstrated experience with equipment selection and specification for mechanical systems. + Ability to perform and interpret mechanical calculations and sizing for major equipment such as gas compression and gas conditioning systems. + Experience in troubleshooting mechanical systems during installation, commissioning, or operation. + Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and its application in mechanical drawings. + Experience working with OEMs and third-party packagers on mechanical equipment and systems. + Ability to manage bills of materials (BOMs) and related engineering documentation. + Strong communication skills to participate in design reviews, project meetings, and client presentations. + B.S. in Engineering or a related field, ideally in Mechanical Engineering. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Understanding of power generation systems and applications. + Experience with new product development in a mechanical or engineering environment. + Exposure to project management practices in engineering projects. + Experience collaborating with general contractors and multidisciplinary engineering teams. + Familiarity with gas compression, gas conditioning, and power generation processes. + Ability to work independently and as part of a team to deliver engineering solutions on schedule. + Strong organizational skills to handle multiple projects and priorities. + Willingness to support occasional travel and field troubleshooting as needed. Work Environment The role is primarily based in an office environment, with an expectation to be on-site in the office at least four days per week. The schedule is coordinated with leadership to support both design work and project needs. The position may require occasional travel for troubleshooting, field installation support, and commissioning activities. Work involves frequent use of engineering and design tools such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and analysis software, as well as collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and external partners. The position is offered as a salaried contract, and holidays are covered during the contract period. The primary site location is in Abilene, Texas, with relocation support available as a lump-sum allowance for eligible candidates. The work environment emphasizes professional collaboration, project ownership from concept through commissioning, and engagement with complex power generation systems. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Houston, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $60.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
