Raytheon's System Engineering and Test Capabilities (SE&TC) Surface Radars & Sensors (SR&S) Center is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to support Raytheon's Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) contract in Louisville, KY, as Chief Engineer. In this role, you will oversee critical engineering activities such as drawing reviews, proposal reviews, supplier interactions, and potential drawing updates. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, program management, finance, supply chain, and quality to ensure program success. What You Will Do Lead the Project Engineering Cross-Functional Team in planning and tracking projects to achieve optimal efficiency, establish best practices in project planning, and drive mission success. Oversee project planning, tracking, and progress reporting for assigned projects. Collaborate with the Program Management team to ensure adherence to schedules, budgets, and performance metrics. Drive excellence in achieving on-time delivery. Serve as the primary interface with Raytheon Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Engineers to assess and approve proposed drawing and process deviations for suitability. Process, evaluate, and provide timely responses to Product Quality Deficiency Reports (PQDRs) to ensure compliance with requirements. Collaborate directly with a broad supplier base to provide technical solutions and guidance on engineering-related challenges. Prioritize expeditious resolution of issues to avoid cost and lead-time impacts, particularly in a Firm Fixed Price (FFP) contract environment. Identify, assess, and manage project risks, implementing effective risk mitigation strategies to ensure project success. Domestic travel expected, approximately 5-10%. Qualifications You Must Have Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience. Experience interpreting, updating, and/or revising engineering drawings. Experience with project management, project leadership and/or technical leadership. Qualifications We Prefer Ability to excel in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, successfully managing multiple priorities across 1,000+ active contracts annually on various Raytheon platforms. Strong decision-making skills, with the ability to make accurate, informed, and timely decisions, even with limited information or ambiguity. Demonstrated ability to assess contract risks, evaluate technical and programmatic inputs, and make informed, timely decisions in situations with limited or evolving information. Skilled in applying structured decision‑making frameworks and interpreting complex contractual language to ensure recommendations and actions remain aligned with internal policies and U.S. Government requirements. Demonstrated leadership abilities with a track record of successfully aligning and guiding teams of engineers and logisticians to resolve routine and complex challenges. Experience working with internal and external customers, delivering technical solutions tailored to user requirements, and creating and maintaining detailed technical documentation. Ability to collaborate and contribute effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams, consistently delivering results and exceeding customer expectations. Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and build productive relationships at all levels within and outside the organization. Demonstrated expertise in program management, including managing staffing, resource allocation, and task assignments to meet critical project milestones and deliverables. Onsite:
Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products. As part of our commitment to maintaining a secure hiring process, candidates may be asked to attend select steps of the interview process in-person at one of our office locations, regardless of whether the role is designated as on-site, hybrid or remote. The salary range for this role is 107,500 USD - 204,500 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
