Job Description SummaryWe are seeking a highly experienced Senior R D Mechanical Design Expert specializing in power transformers to drive technology development, innovation, and next-generation product design. This role is distinctly focused on research, advanced engineering methodologies, and long-term technology strategy rather than project execution.
The successful candidate will lead the development of new design concepts, analytical methods, and engineering standards, while advancing the mechanical performance, reliability, and sustainability of transformer technologies.
Job DescriptionRoles and ResponsibilitiesR D & Technology DevelopmentLead research and development of advanced mechanical design concepts for next-generation power transformersDefine and develop new design methodologies, tools, and internal standards (including Design Handbook - DH rules)Explore innovative materials, structures, and manufacturing techniques to enhance transformer performance and durabilityEvaluate emerging technologies and integrate them into product platformsAdvanced Simulation & Digital EngineeringDevelop and implement advanced simulation methodologies using: Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Multiphysics simulations (structural, thermal, electromagnetic interactions), ANSYS or equivalent high-end simulation tools.
Establish best practices for simulation-driven design and digital validationCorrelate simulation models with experimental and field data to improve accuracyLead development of digital twins and predictive modelling capabilitiesFailure Physics & Reliability EngineeringLead deep-dive failure investigations to understand fundamental failure mechanismsDevelop physics-of-failure models for transformer components and systemsTranslate failure insights into design rules, standards, and technology improvementsDefine and enhance reliability engineering frameworks, including DFMEA methodologiesBuild knowledge databases for failure modes and lessons learnedDesign Standards & Knowledge DevelopmentOwn and continuously improve internal design standards, guidelines, and DH rulesDevelop scalable engineering tools, calculation methods, and automation frameworksCapture and institutionalize technical knowledge across the organizationPublish technical papers, patents, and internal whitepapersCross-Functional InnovationCollaborate with electrical, materials, and manufacturing R D teams to co-develop integrated solutionsSupport early-stage concept development and feasibility studiesProvide technical guidance to product engineering teams for technology transferTechnical LeadershipAct as a global subject matter expert in transformer mechanical design and R DMentor engineers and build technical capability within the organizationLead technical reviews, innovation workshops, and design forumsInfluence strategic decisions on technology investments and development priorities.
Qualifications / Requirements / Desired characteristics:
Bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering or related field (PhD preferred)10-15+ years of experience in transformer mechanical design, with a strong focus on R D or technology development.
Proven expertise in:
Advanced transformer mechanical design principlesANSYS or equivalent simulation toolsFEA and Multiphysics modellingFailure analysis and physics-of-failure approachesDFMEA and reliability engineeringDemonstrated experience in developing design standards, DH rules, or engineering methodologiesStrong understanding of IEC, IEEE, and related industry standards.
