JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS
We are searching for a Research Engineer Intern to join our Vehicle Investigation and Cybersecurity Department at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State. ARL/Penn State's purpose is to develop innovative solutions in support of the engineering and technology needs of the Department of Defense. Through this internship, you will have opportunities to work across departments in the Applied Sustainment Technology Division. ARL is an authorized DoD SkillBridge partner and welcomes all transitioning military members to apply.You will:
Assist in the development and maintenance of applications and software that improve vehicle sustainment Work with embedded computer systems and develop software for embedded Linux Perform engineering experiments, tests, and data collection to ensure data integrity, quality control, and protocol compliance Apply an analytical approach to the solution of a wide variety of problems; apply specialized techniques in selecting and evaluating approaches to unforeseen or novel problems Collaborate with other team members of different skillsets/backgrounds to accomplish project goals Review and evaluate results and conclusions of research tasks Document and communicate findings and recommendations in professional reports and presentations Students majoring in the following fields are encouraged to apply: Computer Science Computer Engineering Software Engineering Required skills/experience areas include: Ability to develop software with skills in Python, C#, C++ (or similar technology) Ability to utilize version control tools like Git Ability to prepare data for use in computational models Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment while meeting task schedule requirements Written and verbal communication skills to communicate research findings to sponsors and collaborate with team members You will work up to 20 hours/week during the fall and spring semesters and have the opportunity to work up to 40 hours/week over the summer. This is a paid internship opportunity, and location can/will be on-site or hybrid. For in-person work, your working location will be State College, PA.
