Mechanical Engineer Job Description This local-remote Mechanical Engineer role offers the opportunity to lead the design of building mechanical systems while working closely with a multi-disciplinary engineering and architecture team. You will develop engineering design solutions that align with project context, budget, and aesthetic goals, and translate design intent into efficient, constructible technical solutions. The position requires periodic site visits, strong collaboration with other disciplines, and the ability to guide projects through all phases using deep knowledge of building systems, materials, codes, and construction technologies. Responsibilities Design components of overall building mechanical systems, integrating them seamlessly with architectural design while adhering to applicable codes and jurisdictional requirements. Evaluate engineering design requirements and produce detailed drawings and documentation to support construction projects. Perform core engineering activities, including mechanical calculations, code research, and research into materials and building systems, to ensure robust and compliant designs. Lay out mechanical system components and calculate program and building areas to support coordinated, efficient building design. Evaluate site conditions, including zoning requirements and site constraints, to ensure design feasibility and compliance. Conduct site surveys and field reviews to accurately document existing conditions and verify new construction conditions. Synthesize, interpret, and coordinate technical information from multiple disciplines to write clear, comprehensive engineering specifications for project manuals. Review project deliverables, including products, services, and shop drawings, to verify adherence to project documents, relevant jurisdictional codes, and internal quality control standards. Collaborate closely with architects, engineers, and other professionals across a multi-disciplinary team to coordinate design through all project phases. Work independently and proactively manage tasks, schedules, and priorities within a flexible, autonomous environment while contributing as a strong team player. Essential Skills Minimum of 8+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, with a focus on building projects. Proficiency in engineering software, including AutoCAD and Revit MEP. Experience using mechanical engineering systems design software to develop and analyze building mechanical systems. Strong engineering knowledge related to building mechanical systems, including HVAC, refrigeration, heating, and air conditioning. Experience designing mechanical systems for multiple building types.
