Also, experience with fire water piping design is preferred. This hybrid Southern California role involves leading industrial and infrastructure projects that improve safety, compliance, and reliability. You will work with cross-disciplinary teams, support clients through technical challenges, and deliver impactful solutions for refineries, food plants, cold storage facilities, utilities, and municipalities. What You'll Do Lead technical design efforts such as pressure vessel modifications, tank certifications, firewater system design, and hydraulic studies. You will be responsible for producing and reviewing detailed technical deliverables that support industrial and infrastructure projects.
Typical tasks include:
General Arrangement & Fabrication Drawings Review detailed GA, fabrication, and welding drawings Review nozzle schedules, support details, manway designs, and wear plate sections Review comprehensive calculation packages and review peer packages for accuracy and compliance Review fabrication/shop drawings using industry-standard software Pressure Vessel Engineering Design & Detailing Create nozzle schedules, support details, manway designs, and wear plate sections. Produce and check general arrangement, fabrication, and welding drawings for new or modified vessels. Develop and review calculation packages covering stress, thickness, reinforcement, nozzle loads, and external pressures. Apply ASME Section VIII (Div. 1 & 2) and API 650 standards for vessel design, modifications, and repairs. Perform fitness-for-service assessments (Level 3) on aging or damaged vessels and pipes. Firewater & Utility Systems Conduct Firewater Flow Calculations, Assessments, and Risk Matrix/Consequence Scenarios Review drawings of existing fire hydrant piping, city specifications, and utility standards Prepare and review construction drawing packages, such as: Site Layout Plan Tie-In Plan Piping Details P&IDs Process Flow Diagrams Utility Layout Plan Provide review & input on structural and mechanical engineering solutions including: Equipment evaluations & support (pumps, compressors, blowers, racks, conveyors) Piping evaluations, modifications & vibration measurements Catwalks, platforms, ladders, and steel fabrication design/plan checks Fall protection & seismic bracing designs Building assessments and remediation (structural upgrades, roof repairs, egress compliance) Manage projects from scoping through delivery: design development, client coordination, construction support, and regulatory compliance. Prepare professional reports, calculations, and drawings using tools such as AutoCAD, Caesar II, MathCAD, WaterCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office. Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders to deliver safe, code-compliant, and cost-effective solutions. What You'll Bring California Professional Engineer (PE) License in Mechanical Engineering (required) . 10+ years of engineering experience in mechanical and/or structural systems, preferably within industrial or infrastructure projects. Experience with seismic design, evaluations, and field inspections, with the ability to integrate structural and mechanical systems. Familiarity with
ASME/API
codes, California Building Code, and industrial safety requirements. Proficiency with engineering software such as AutoCAD, Caesar II, MathCAD, and Bluebeam. Strong skills in technical writing, reporting, and project coordination. Ability to work in a hybrid environment (office, client sites, occasional field work).
